Can you explain it to me?

I know 2 years after commissioning, Ensigns are promoted to Lt. (jg). Then to Lt.... After Lt., they go to Lieutenant Commander, but do they incur a longer service commitment upon themselves? Can they serve some of that commitment in the Reserves?

Links please, if you have them. It's okay if not...

THANKS!

After 5 years service you will need to apply for re-commitment. NO promotion is guaranteed in X amount of years. You go before a board and must have completed all requirements for said promotion. If you miss two promotions you will be administratively separated. The military is not a free pass. You have to earn your promotions JUST like the civilians do!

Best of luck to you try ww.navy.mil and use their search engine

I made Warrant Officer after 16 years . But as for your question you will have to go before a command board after your 5th year . All I can say is suck it up and suck up if you want to go farther in the Navy . Remember COMMANDER means that !You want the scrambled eggs on the hat you better know what you are doing !Your rank will freeze at Lt .cmdr if you go to the reserves.A lot of what you ask is in question , are you a pilot , a doctor , a lawyer ?I Wish you the best in the best service , ask your training officer these questions .

yes, every time you get promoted, they incur x number of years they must serve before they can retire at that paygrade. However, if you are on AD, you must stay on AD in order for the years to count.
