Here's a substitute for brown sugar..

Chocolate Chip Butter Cookies

1 cup butter room temp.
1 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
21/4 cups flour
1 cup chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350. Beat together first 4 ingredients until light and fluffy. Add flour and beat until blended. Mixture will be stiff. Roll dough into one inch balls and flatten with a fork. Bake 15 minutes.

You can use all white sugar but the cookies will be lighter in color and drying in texture. (the br. sugar adds moisture!)
Because I'm curious:
Why wouldn't you want to use brown sugar?

I don't think so. If you are out of brown sugar, you could probably substitute white but I don't think it would taste the same.
