my religious beliefs change my behavior by setting levels of self restraint guidelines...this is a positive effect of my religious belief because it keeps me from going postal on a person if I get angry with them.

when I practiced an alternate religion than what I observe now, I was selfish and wanted my own personal gain above all else no matter what.....that was negative.

religion does not change behavior, however, a personal relationship with God through Christ, should. If we really are born again believers, Christ has taken our unrighteousness and clothed us with His righteousness, so yes, our behavior should be changed for better- unfortunately we still live in the flesh, until we see Jesus but my prayer is that each day, I become more like the Savior that I proclaim.
