Advantage or Frontline from your vet are both very safe and very effective against fleas. They both stay in the top layers of the skin, and work by destroying a flea's exoskeleton. You don't need a prescription to get it from a vet, but make sure it does come from a vet, as products sold online and in pet stores are often counterfeit. Brands from a pet store, such as Hartz, Zodiac, Biospot, Saragants, etc, are NOT safe to use. All have been known to cause chemical burns, seizures, brain damage, and death, especially in cats. This can happen even when it's properly used, and even if it's been applied before without a problem. To top it off, they don't work well. Flea baths are also not recommended, as they can be toxic as well, and Dawn can dry out a cat's skin. Make sure you apply Advantage or Frontline at least 48 hours after a bath, so the skin oils can get back to their natural balance. Since bathing strips the skin's oils, and this is how they travel over the body, they won't work well if applied right after bathing. Flea collars can also be toxic if put on the cat, but you can cut one up and put it in an empty vacuum bag, then vacuum the heck out of your house for about a week to kill fleas in the home. Make sure to get mattresses and furniture as well. Wash and dry all bedding and clothing in the hottest settings safe for the fabrics.

Hi,One of the best treatments is Frontline that's why vets recommend it,you can buy it over the counter from any vets, the cost is around £20 for 3 months supply and it's worth every penny.I have used this on my kitten now for 4 months and since then he has not has a single flea on him. My vet told me that collars are useless because the fleas just move somewhere else on the cats body away from the neck area.

Revolution or Advance from the vet are the safest. They come in vials, and you just squirt a line of it on the back of their neck. You also need to treat the house, but you and the cats need to be out of the area for at least a couple of hours; unless you use an herbal spray called Natural Defense, by Sentry. After you spray it on carpets, funiture, etc. then vacuum. Also wash bedding and anything else that is washable. I have the same project tomorrow. You have to be really careful if you buy any flea products from the store, because they are all very toxic.

Use frontline or any other vet approved spot on.

Do not use any supermarket brands. They don't work and can be dangerous. Especially avoid Bob Martin. It has been know to kill cats. My vet said he saw a cat that had rubbed his paws on the back of his head, licked the spot on off and died. The fleas made it. The owner called a consumer watchdog to report it but they were already investigating.
They just chuck any old pesticides in it to make it cheaply.

I found advanced most effective, if you find fleas in the carpet or items around the house there is a eucalyptus based product that you can buy from the supermarket and i use it my washing machine also put it into a spray bottle to spray the carpet it kills fleas and mites.

No collars, none work.

Only use products from vets, because stores aren't allowed to sell the proper drugs that actually work, so they just sell whatever. Get Frontline, Revolution or Advantage from a vet, and get something to treat your house with as well.

Frontline spot-on (see link).

We've used it on our cat ever since we got her and shes never once had fleas. Its easy to do aswell, just apply it to the back of their neck.

frontline everytime , they come in the form of drops that you administer to the back of cats neck where they can not lick it and are pretty quick acting usually within 24hrs.
It lasts 4-6wks

good luck
