Dogs are prey animals and want to go after anything they can hunt. Your dog don't understand that your hamster is a pet and not something to prey after. Do not let the dog get to the hamster.

absolutely do not let the dog get to the hamster. I had a dog I rescued and a hamster I rescued as well it was a handicapped hamster so sweet and cute but the dog snapped at her only once before I gave her away. The hamster went to a new home a classroom for handicapped children in an elementary school. The dog eventually went to a new home as well when the apt. manager found out I had her. But keep your hamster safe.
