Are you more likely to be the person not returning love or the person not having love returned? It has been both ways for me. =)

Actually, according to dictionary.com, one of the meanings for victim is: One who is harmed by or made to suffer from an act, circumstance, agency, or condition...

You would suffer from unrequited love, which can be considered a "circumstance" or sometimes a "condition". Therefore, you can be a victim of unrequited love.

In another dictionary site (Merriam Webster), victim is defined as "one that is acted on and usually adversely affected by a force or agent ". I would consider unrequited love a force or agent.

If it makes you feel any better, I'll rephrase my question to "have you ever suffered from unrequited love?"

I'm the daydreamer, always. I've never had the courage to act on my crushes. Most crushes turned out to be simply that, but there was one crush that I just kept on expecting to die out like all the others but it never did. For the whole two years that I knew him I had the biggest crush on him but I didn't want to spoil our friendship so I never told him.

After we left school I went overseas for a year and as our friendship hadn't been all that close (I was always afraid to open up) the most I got was one email from him. That was about three years ago and I still have regrets about not having told him when I had the chance.

...Bah!

You can't be a "victim" of unrequited love because the other person hasn't done anything to you to make you a "victim". It's not their fault they don't feel the same way you do.

I'm 45 and the last time it happened I was 39 ..it still hurt the same way but after that one I resolved to not get involved with anybody that wasn't showing any interest in me in a romantic way.
