s(he) is very cute, but small. I can't really tell if its a boy or a girl, cause its so small. It seems to be doing well and I would peg it at the 4 week mark in ability, but in size 3 weeks would be pushing it. Here is my dilema...should I be feeding it kitten milk substitute and kitten food? It will eat dry food whenever it is available, but I don't know if s(he) is ready. Its really happy and playful, so I would assume its doing well. Also, I have never had and orange cat, what should I name it? I don't want anything too common though. My 2 year old cat Phoebe is taking it all fairly well, she just won't go anywhere near it without hissing. This will pass right? Oh yes, I can't take it to the vet till Tues. cause it is thanksgiving here in canada, and everything is closed.

Having had TONS of kittens, I am glad to inform you that your kitten is going to be fine if it is eating dry cat food. There is NO need to give it milk. If you'd like you can mix in some canned cat food with the dry or soak it in water to soften it up if the kitten seems to be choking on it.

There is no need to take the kitten to the vet at this point because it is so young it can't have any shots. If it is clear-eyed, playful and eating fine, you don't have anything to worry about!

As far as naming the kitten, you should wait until you know what sex it is unless you want to name it Kitty!

Because it is already eating dry food, I am suspecting it is at least 4 weeks old but most likely 5 weeks or older.

If it wants to eat the kitten food that is fine but try to either offer it kitten milk substitute or soak the dry food in milk or kitten milk. I used to have an orange cat named Oliver, or you could do Olivia if its a girl. It sounds good that it is doing well, as far as if being small it may have been malnurished or even the runt of the litter. Your other cat should get more used to it as time goes on and I'm glad to hear you are going to take it to the vet.

Good for you & your sister for saving the poor little thing. Hope whoever dumped it gets struck by lightning. The milk substitute is good & maybe soak the dry food in a little hot water to soften it a bit. Wait a few days to see kitty's personality & if it's a boy or girl before you pick a name. My friend had an orange cat named Twister. I thought that was a cute name. Perfect for his hyper personality too. Or maybe see how to say Lucky in another language, because that kitten was sure lucky to have you. PS... my grandma always said orange cats were the smartest & she's had every color imaginable over the years.

Buy Science Diet for Kittens. Your adult cat can eat it as well and it will be beneficial for both. I got a free bag from my vet and my cats loved it, when I ran out and couldn't get to the store right away, they went on a mini hunger strike and wouldn't eat the Friskies. Their coats look great and feel softer. And yes it will pass, I bought a new kitten in July and my resident cat HATED her and did the same thing, hissed, swat at her etc. but now they are like old pals. Good luck!

kitten food should be enough. just make sure you don't give it regular milk! I imagine you already know that though since you have another cat.

We recently saved an orange stray as well. He ended up being named Valentine.

Bravo to you for saving your new kitten!
