I'm in college and staph was reported in my dorm. I have some symptoms such as fever, headache, chest pains, my left underarm was also hurting, but it stopped. I wash my hands alot, shower daily, and my room stays clean, along with my clothes.

Staph infections do not always cause a boil, and cuts are also not necessary to contract a staph infection - harsh soaps can remove oils and fats that allow staph to invade. Staph bacteria are always present on your skin. Infections occur when it gets out of control for some reason. Staph infections of the skin don't go unnoticed - they cause redness and an almost constant burning/tingling feeling -- very uncomfortable and sometimes extremely painful.

The symptoms you are describing are classic flu symptoms.

Everybody has staph in their body. Also the staph bacteria is what causes acne so don't be terribly alarmed at the report of staph. Just relax and wash you hands often and keep yourself healthy.
