I can hear background voices and sound effects but no voices from the main characters so I cannot hear dialog of any sort HELP !!! the player is a LG DAT 250 W

Look for a REGION-LESS dvd player. In other words, a dvd player that will play any dvd from any country. You may have to search Ebay or the web.

You would need a Region 4 DVD player to do that.
