Some aircraft are designed for parachutes, some are not. Most civillian aircraft are not designed for parachutes.
To needlessly wear one could best be likened to wearing scuba tank on your sofa in the event of a flood. If you had a specially designed sofa, it might not be so bad.
Carrying it in the airplane is about as useful to survival as carrying a book of 20,001 baby names. Putting a parachute on in flight would be like trying to put an overnight backpacker's ruck on in your refrigerator, and that's if you can reach the parachute. If you have an in flight emergency, you're likely to make matters worse by climbing to the back to grab a parachute, and should you manage to get out alive, won't have managed to arguably change your chances of survival.
No.
Remove parachutes from your Christmas list unless you're giving them to skydivers. If you have pilots on your Christmas list, give them something they can use, such as a Leatherman Multi-tool, (a couple hundred bucks less expensive than a parachute and a few hundred times more helpful,) or a survival kit.
For the love of,.... What is it with all the parachute questions lately?

No.
A plane has to be designed for egress with a chute for it to be of any use.
Even the whole plane parachute by BRS as in Cirrus aircraft is a crapshoot (crapchute?), it's just a last ditch effort.
Having a parachute taking up space and weight in a typical small plane is useless.

I have enough trouble getting in and out of a small plane without a parachute. I'd probably give up trying to even get in if I had one strapped on.
I flew an SNJ once and wore a parachute. But the chute was already in place and I just sat down and strapped it on.
Many small planes only have one door so getting in and out is a pain as it is. And people in back... forgetaboutit.

No, Max. We already told you this. It would be of no use unless we owned an aerobatic airplane and didn't already have one and were planning to do some aerobatic flying in which parachutes were required.
Otherwise it would be a bother and a burden and we would probably trade it for an entertainment center or something else fun.
Again, Max, parachutes are not allowed on commercial aircraft, and small airplanes are not designed for using parachutes. A parachute makes no contribution to safety in normal civilian flight.
Will you please stop worrying about this? It's nothing to worry about. Go on to bed, now...

if i am in a small plane civil such as a cessna yess in a commerical aircraft no in fact u are not even allowed to take a parachute as a carry on in any commercial aircraft. when i was a pilot it crossed my mind but with experience i found it would be a lousy idea if not impossible.

No, and no I do not have a parachute, as a Captain with over 16,500 flying hours I do not need one!!! Also most airliners do not have parachutes, at least the major airline company I fly for don't.... and if you had a parachute you would be be allowed on board with it...

Not a chance I'm jumping out of my CRJ... and in a small airplane... most incidents occur do to engine failure or stall close to the ground... a parachute doesnt do much good from 50 or even 150 ft...

I'd buy a Pitts or a Zlin to justify owning a parachute.

Nope. Because most of the time, if you need to get out that bad, you can't due to Altitude, Attitude, Configuration of the Plane, location ETC.
