DBT was developed specifically for BPD by a Dr. Linehan. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder.

It is extremely effective if you indeed want to make changes in your lif

I had BPD but I don't anymore. I did not get treated with DBT, but I have heard many very good things about it and I would recommend it to any borderline. However, I was able to recover from this terrible disorder only after I stopped going to counseling, because I was only going so I could get the attention I desperately craved. Also, I got a job after spending 5 years on disability, and that helped me a great deal as well. While I wouldn't recommend that all borderlines quit counseling, I have learned that recovery comes when you finally decide that you really do want to get better. I stopped the "borderline behavior" like cutting, stunts to get attention, and the angry outbursts, but it took a few years to lose the emotional urges to do these things.

A psychologist once kicked me out of his office as soon as I told him my diagnosis, telling me that I was "beyond help". I prooved him wrong, but it wasn't easy. The emotions that come with this disorder are very difficult to keep in check. But I just didn't want to be sick anymore. And now that I've been "cured", those old behaviors don't even tempt me.

Another treatment for borderline is a 12-step group called "Emotions Anonymous". It would be a great add-on to BDT because it helps members get control of the roller-coaster emotions that are such a big part of BPD.

Good luck! If you really want to get better, you will. (And I believe you do or you wouldn't have asked this question).

I enrolled in a DBT group that is starting on the 15th. DBT is found to be the most effective treatment for individuals with BPD. I hope it works. Try it out for a while. Give it a couple of months. If you don't like it...you can always try something else. Good luck on whatever you decide on.
