I went to a party tonight, my friend's girlfriend has moved in with him. She brought her cat with her. At their party tonight, the cat is roaming around, jumping up on the counter numerous times, eating off the trays, etc. and the girl is just laughing it off "aww, cats are so funny" etc. Is it just me, or this ridiculously rude and inconsiderate of the guests? Should one of us have said something, or would that have been equally rude?

I don't know if I would have said something about it, but I do think it's rude to let the cat eat off other people's plates, trays, jump on the counter etc. I love cats and have two myself; however when my husband and I have people over, the cats are kept away from the food...if the cats still insist on getting in the food, then they are put in another room. Just because I love cats doesn't mean my guests necessarily do.

I'm an avid cat lover and have 7 in the house, but they are NOT allowed to eat off serving trays or get up on the counters. It's a little harder to control if they go to someone holding a plate in their lap, but if they won't stop they are simply put in another room.
It was rude and inconsiderate for your host to allow this, and you shouldn't have to say anything as they should know better.
BUT - assuming there is a next time - if they don't or won't do anything about it it's ok for you to say something.

Cats (and canines) do no longer look ahead to an invite to get onto the table or consume off your plate in case you enable it sit down around. do no longer positioned your plate down at a party, extremely if there are pets working loose. At my residing house, my modern cat could be hiding below the mattress. My final one might are available to sniff ankles. yet another ingredient that would take place in case you go away your plate sitting around is that somebody would positioned a grimy napkin on it or take it into the kitchen to be washed. And, all those human beings did became enable their cat be interior the room. The cat took over from then on. in case you know the host you may say something. otherwise, get a sparkling plate. I as quickly as had dinner at a house the place the two canines have been enable into the eating room. They have been so extensive their noses have been at my shoulder height once I sat down. of direction, we in no way time-honored an invite for dinner at their residing house returned.

GAK!!

Man, I grew up with cats, and cats were NEVER allowed up on the table, nor the counters and the ONLY dishes they got to eat out of was their own, in the far corner of the kitchen.

That's disgusting, IMO - cats sometimes eat their own crap - you want to eat food the cat's just been licking? No thank you!

Same goes for dogs - and I have those now - best they get is scraps, after everyone is done eating- in their bowls.

Cat people are nuts. That explains everything they do. Since you were a guest, there really wasn't anything you could do. You were supposed to think the cat was charming, and you were supposed to enjoy eating food with cat spit and leftover litter box contents on it.
