In the past three days I have had 2 major calf muscle contractions (fyi they hurt really bad) and my back is killing me in just the top left side. Does anyone know if I should see a chropractor or doctor or should I just keep medicating myself? Please tell me if there is a name for the leg contractions because i have been having them on and off for years

The calf contractions might be charley horses.

How have you been treating the muscle aches? If you've been basically doing nothing, try:

Massaging the area, and especially behind the knee. Get someone to rub your back. GENTLY. If it hurts, stop.

Try an analgesic, like aspirin or ibuprofen, if you haven't already. Follow the directions; don't overdose.

Liniament sometimes works wonders -- I like Tiger Balm, but there are tons of liniaments out there for sore muscles.

Try heating the area, or icing it.

Exercise (like walking) in a gentle way to get the blood flowing through your whole body. But if it hurts stop!

Make sure you are getting lots of water, and also eating healthy foods. You might try upping your potassium by eating a banana or two.

If you aren't much better by tomorrow (24 hours from now), then go see a doc. I'd say a chiropracter might be better for muscle pain. Alternative treatments, like acupuncture or shiatsu, also work great for muscle pain.

And if the doctor doesn't do a thing for you, FIND ANOTHER! I'm yelling because bad doctors had me suffering longer than I needed to.

Good luck!

I'd be interested to know if your leg contractions happen at night. Some people tense parts of their body while they sleep. Teeth grinders come to mind- but also calf tension is common.

Secondly, I have read that these too can be caused by lack of potassium- try eating a banana every day for a week and see what happens.

you should see a chiropractor for your shoulder
low levels of electrolytes, magnesium, potassium, calcium, and sodium have been known to cause calf muscle contractions. If they're still in pain after there can be some muscle damage caused during the contraction. It's advised you see a sports massage therapist.

well, my grandfather is a doctor, and he told me that my cousin had something similar. first of all, you need to rub some cold ointment in all of the places that that ache. then, put on an indian headress, do a rain dance, and call up your crush and talk to him for an hour and u should be cured. GO TO A DOCTOR< SILLY!!!
