The older woman that lives below me has complained twice to the property manager that she was hearing noise from my unit at late hours... both times I was either asleep or not home. I was able to explain that to the property manager and there was no problem. Last night, however, I had a couple friends over and we were playing a game on the living room floor. I didn't think we were being loud. There was no shouting or anything out of the ordinary, but at midnight two police officers were at my door saying that the lady below me complained that we were "stomping" on the floor! The officers said that they didn't hear anything when they were coming up, but asked us to try to keep it down. Today the property manager left a message saying that she needed to "meet with us tomorrow to speak about some things!" I LOVE this condo. The woman under me already owns her unit, but I am still renting and will be buying soon. There are no others like this one. I don't want to move!!!

Please note: on all three instances, I WAS NOT making any extra noise. (Twice I was asleep or not even home!)

I'd hazard a guess that the downstairs neighbor is just one of those people that gets pissed off when someone else is having fun. Unless she can prove something (and without the police hearing anything, that's going to be difficult), management doesn't have any grounds to evict you.

I have lived in a condo for almost six years. I own mine, and have had several renters for neighbors over the years. We all manage to be friendly and considerate of each other.

I think you are being harrassed. Go to your local police station and file a police report against your neighbor saying that you are being harrassed by her unsubstantiated complaints, which are designed to make you unhappy and make you move. Take a copy to the condo people. Don't put up with this. Living in a condo or an apartment means that you have to be tolerant and understanding of each other, and some amount of noise is to be expected. Like I said, don't put up with this and stand up for yourself. You don't have to be bullied like this.

And no, you cannot be evicted. And don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

If she is elderly she might just be miserable and trying to force you out for some reason or losing her mind. I had an elderly landlady who lived beneath me who owned the place and was constantly complaining about my little girl making noise or running through her yard. I couldn't please her. Anyway, if she has been there longer than you the landlord can throw you out. Even if you are not at fault. Try talking to her nicely. If it doesn't work try buying another condo away from her. You just can't please some people.

No, unless your landlord has had enough. As someone who lives in the downstairs apartment and has lived below some really noisy people, just be courteous. No loud music or tv after a certain hour and don't stomp your feet. Try to explain things to your landlord...

The lady downstairs complained. The police were called. Now, the manager wants to see you. Yes, you can be asked to leave.

Get the manager to ask your other neighbors if they have a problem with you or if anyone else has complained. I had a neighbor that used to complain when I vacuumed or flushed the toilet. She hated everybody.

It sounds like the problem is between you and your downstairs neighbor. If you are thinking about living in this place for a long time it's worth it to try to patch things up with her. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

First I would explain all this to the manager that you meet with.
If your lucky this lady has more than likely complained before.
~~Good Luck~~
