Normal cats lap up the water with their tongues right?
My cat dips his paw into the water and licks the water off his paw instead of from the bowl

Oh I know there's nothing wrong with it, and I dont want to stop him from doing it because it's so adorable lol. Its just that he's done it since he was a kitten and I always wondered why lol. He is 6 years old now

It's normal. I have a cat that will do that occasionally. Some cats will tap the water to make it move before sticking their face in it to check the level of it. Cats don't like to just plop their faces into a bowl of water. Some less so than others I guess.

Yeah, this is prevalent. Cats desire sparkling working water in many cases, so while they locate some water that smells good and sparkling they generally attempt to drink it. My cat does the comparable element, she the two sticks her head interior the glass or dips her paw in and drinks that way. She additionally follows all of us into the bathing room and jumps up onto the sink, attempting to get you to teach on the faucet for her to drink from. comparable with the kitchen sink and laundry sink too sometimes. not all cats are that fascinated in it, yet i think of its rather undemanding. They even sell particular 'working water' water dishes for cats that circulate the water to maintain it sparkling lol.

One of my cats will not drink except from a running faucet. The male uses his paws ,like yours, and sometimes gets very wet. In hot weather he will lie in water to get his belly wet. A wet cat is not a pretty sight.

Although my cats don't do this, I've heard of cats drinking water that way! I don't think it's that abnormal. . . . You could always ask your vet though. I don't think it's anything to be too concerned about, as long as your cat's drinking water.

Lots of cats do that, no worries. Maybe get him a kitty water fountain, he might enjoy the moving water - my 4 kitties do!

Awww, you know you think it's cute.
As long as they drink water, that's all that matters. It's usually something they learned that worked for them when they were really young and they decide to stick with it. Maybe he didn't have other kittens raised with him to see the other way to do it.

It depends on his heritage. That isnt all that unusual for cats in the wild who tended to have larger predators around that they had to watch out for. Its a much safer procedure.
