The 43rd spot is reserved for the past champions provisional. If one isn't used then the 43rd spot goes to the slowest of the cars outside the top 35.
I think it's stupid. It's about time they get rid of the whole top 35 rule.

That was the last spot in the field to put his car.with the pts. system nascar has. Look at A.J.Allmendinger,he actually qualif. faster than the 8th spot,by Labonte.
I tell ya,qualify 8th.and ''STILL'' have to load up and go home?
I'm not a fan of his...but that's ''got to be a little hard to swallow.you get yourself out of that top 35and that's how it is!!!That's why K.Petty was so p.o'ed at Hamlin few week's ago !!!

Two things NASCAR has to get rid of--the top 35 owners points provisionals, and the Cup impoundment races. I agree with the majority here--let the forty-three fastest cars race.

I'm looking for the same answer. Just read on NASCAR .com that there is some qualifying rule, but they didn't go into detail. May have to Wait til tomorrow to find out unless someone else knows.

He might be better off there at the back. Jarrett likes missing the big one so he falls to the back in the super speedway races quite often anyways.

Thanks to NASCARS BRILLIANT top 35 in owners points Jarrett goes to the rear and the biggest kick in the rear is 5 of the fastest drivers had to go home.
The fastest 43 should race.

That is really a bad situation. After qualifying so well, to have to go to the back on a provisional really SUX! I would be really upset if I were him. But at least he didn't have to go home.
