most of those paintings were done by renaissance artists...so they made him white.
paintings were being commissioned by the church so of course they painted them the way the church wanted them to.
i could be wrong about this though.

Well I have actually heard several arguement on this. He was from the line of David who is "documented" to have red hair. Thus he could have inherited from the line of David a "white" look bu then I think "The man lived in the sun. Even if he was white under the tan, he was still tanned"so yeah either way....he wasn't lily white.

I thought white was the cheapest color artist can use? Why burden artists like this? What have you against artists? And why not blue or plaid? Why accurate art work only?
I am glad your not ruler of the planet - unless I missed a news story.

I think it would throw the religion off if they worshipped a middle eastern. I would worship no doubt, but others might not. People in 2007 think of middle-easterns as terrorists.

Jesus (if he existed) most likely resembled Saddam Hussein (like in the Popular Mechanics article referenced above) or Osama bin Laden (the image on the Shroud of Turin looks just like him). See images here:

Here's a nice story and a pic of what Jesus probably looked more like...based on characteristics of a Galilean Semite in his era.

Well, if you just want an academic debate on the skin color of the Son of God, you're really missing the reason why the Father sent Him to earth. Skin color is a moot point.

If you means the historic Jesus... each people choose the color they prefer.
Jesus is a new state of conscience... and so has no color.

Because people like to think he was like them. I've seen black Jesuses..(is that the plural of jesus?)
And middle easterners are evil, so he couldn't have been that (i'm kidding, obviously)
