when im playing classical music or anything low level, i hear the running of the machine and that annoying high-pitched squeel. its not really that noticible, but its one'a those things that once you hear it, you cant ignore it and its annoying as hell

I suggest going to a good store where they let you listen to the players and then turn the volume all the way down and listen while it's playing to see if it makes much of a sound.

The spinning of the disc will always make some noise. There is only one way around that: put the player in a different room. Or listen thru headphones.

I have a Sony DVP-NS75H and it's great. I never hear anything from it. I do have it sitting on 2 inches of solid oak wood for stability.

PS3, It's a little expensive but less expensive than a blu-ray disk player,it's really silent, plus you get gaming and internet

I'd recommend going to wal-mart and getting a really cheap one. It probably won't have a fan or any bells and whistles.
