Please help the technologically challenged.... :) Here is what I have:
-cable tv coming out of the wall via coax cable (no cable box)
- an old tv with only a coax cable plug (no rca cable slots)
-an rf modulator with rca slots and coax plug
-a dvd/vcr combo with rca plugs (2 sets- both input and output) and s-video-- no coax plugs

Right now I have cable going from the wall to the rf modulator, and a coaxial cable running from the rf modulator to the tv, and RCA cables from the rf modulator to the dvd/vcr plugs that say output. So I can play dvds and vhs tapes and they show up on the screen, but I can't watch cable tv while the vcr/dvd is on- I only get a blue screen unless I am playing a dvd/vhs. So I am assuming I also couldn't record any cable tv using the vcr. So basically I have empty RCA input slots on the dvd/vcr but no other open RCA slots on any of the other equipment. Is there any way to get everything to work together??? Thanks!

OK....divide and CONQUER....

Disassemble all your cabling.....

The RF coax on the wall NEEDS a splitter on it FIRST.
Then TWO RF cables are connected to it. Run One cable to the TV set....You will NOW have CABLE at your TV set.....

THEN....you take the RF MODULATOR and connect the RF coax connector to the 2nd wire on the RF SPLITTER....

(I hope you don't have a channel 3 on your cable system, it would interfere with the RF modulator's channel 3...if so TRY the RF modulator's channel 4 if there is no CABLE chan 4!!)

THEN those RCA cables get connected to the RF MODULATOR, and THEN you connect it to the DVD/VCR's
DVD/VCR OUTPUT.....

Now, just plug in the RF modulator's power cord and turn it on.
Put a TAPE in the VCR and hit play....
Go to channel 3 or channel 4 if you switched it....
You should see the tape playing....
If it looks like CRAP, then temporarily disconnect the WALL cable from the splitter and see if it clears up...
If it does, then CABLE's channel 3 or 4 is blending with the VCR's channel 3 or 4 and WE CAN'T HAVE THAT!!

That's when you buy an RF switch from Radio Shack and plug it in....in place of the SPLITTER.

Then you follow my directions again but replace the word SPLITTER with the word <>

Not sure if you needed the modulator. this is how I do it 1 connect your cable or antenna to your VCR. 2 connect your VRC to your TV coaxial cable. 3 connect your DVD player to your VCR using red, yellow and white AV jacks. Out from DVD and in on the VCR. Then you need to have the VCR on and program channels on the VCR. Turn to channel 3 or 2 on the VCR and this will give you the DVD player.
