a test first? Well my question is this, keeping withthat mentality shouldnt people have to take some kind of test before having children? Babies dont come with directions either and you do hear a lot of news stories of children being abused, physically and sexually. Maybe you should have to apply for a permit then take a parenting class and thenpass a test then have a kid?

That would be a perfect idea. But there is no way to regulate it. There is no way to keep people from having babies until they pass a parenting test. But if there was, it would be perfect. Not everyone should have kids, and not everyone should own a dog.

It's a good idea in theory, but I seriously doubt if such a requirement could be enforced. True, many children are abused and neglected, and some even die at the hands of their parents. But you really can't restrict people from having children, or making them take a test, as that could be construed as a violation of human rights. But you are not alone in your concern. Child abuse is common, and is often done by the people who should love and care for them the most, their parents. There are definitely people who shouldn't have children, and that's why there are child protective service organizations and domestic abuse shelters. That's about as far as the law can go. We need better legislation to protect our kids, but screening people beforehand is really not the answer, because some people cheat on tests, so testing is not foolproof. Parenting classes are generally required by the courts after there is evidence of child abuse, but not before.

Oh do i wish they would! I am an owner of an american pitbull terrier, everyone hates the breed and dont think about what these animals go through not just pitbulls. But think about it all but one of micheal vick dogs was rescued isnt that telling you itsnt the breed.. I truely think people should have tests, for all the abuse they shouldnt go through. Its unfair the way people treat dogs sometimes, all breeds.
Same with children especially the teen parents. they cant even take care of thereselfs and they are bringing another person in the world. Not every teen! I truely think they should! It tears me up!!!

I wish people would. My heart aches for the animals that are in this world with the ignorant people out there, the children, god help them, that is even more awful to think of. I agree we should all be educated more about people and babies and the responsibilities of both having a child and a pet, look at the way we abuse our animals. Is it a wonder why we hurt our own kind?

well lets see, how would you control all the kids out there having sex, are you just talking about adults who want kids, or kids who are out there having kids? cuz then everyone should just be snipped the second they are able to reproduce..or let a woman go 9 months with a child in her belly, make her take a test when it comes out and if she doesn't pass try taking that child away from her..not likely...yes there are unfit people out there, and i wish i could talk so many of them out of the selfish decisions that they make. the only thing i can do is pray to God about all the wrong in the world, and hope that all the selfish people out there, one day learn a lesson..not everyone is fit to be a parents, but not even God can control that, most choose the wrong path.

With this theory... mentally disabled people can't have a dog. (companion or service)

I think this is a good idea, with good intentions, but realistically can never be applied.

BOY don't I wish there was a test to pass to keep idiots from having dogs, but it would end up discluding the people who need dogs more than anything.

In a perfect world, yes. But we can't regulate gun sales on streets, much less the selling of puppies from backyard breeders. There's no way to regulate something that occurs all over the place with no one to monitor it.

Truthfully, the test should be for any breeders. If you can't pass the test, you can't breed.

Good breeders DO test their potential buyers. I personally have refused to sell to people because they didn't deserve to have a dog. If they breeders are held accountable for what happens to their puppies, then I know their would be less problems!

Who would administer and judge these tests? An inefficient, inept governement agency? Just what we need - more red tape and higher taxes.

Although in theory what you say is a good idea, it would cause way more problems than it would solve.
