I am purchasing a 07 crew cab Tacoma and was just wondering how it performs off road. Its a 2WD V6 with no TRD equiptment.

I'm always amazed where 2wd trucks go. Here in Colorado you could explore many of the mining roads. It'd be great for "fireroading" where you don't need low gearing and lots of traction.
I've seen 2wd trucks do some pretty challenging 4wd roads but they weren't using the finesse approach...they were using the crash-bash style which you probably wouldn't want to do with an '07 Taco.
The Pre-runner has a nice, rompy suspension setup and nice usable power. With a little driving skill, you can put some fun dirt-miles under it.
You might just invest in a little recovery gear like a come-along, high-lift jack and some straps. And know your limitations...don't get in too deep.
I go crawling around on trails in 2wd without locking the hubs sometimes. I have a rear locking diff though so that helps. If you've considered springing for the rear locker, on uneven terrain, 2wd with a locker gives you much better traction than 4wd without one.

I would not take a 2wd off road.
If there is no TRD you have week springs and a open diff, You will only have one wheel driving your truck and will get stuck easy and you have nothing to fall back on except a friend with a strap to pull you out.

Bad idea. Don't do it. 2wd are not made for off road. Plus you'll just break stuff and get stuck allk the time.

the pre runner is a wanna be 4x4, it is not made for off road, hence off road performance is zilch
