One answer wanted to know what would happen to the cat in a couple years. She would be taking the cat with her to college as she will be living in an apartment. But, if she couldn't we are more than prepared to care for the cat as we are animal lovers.

Out of the two, i really don't know. I've heard ragdolls are very sweet and so are persians. I think persians are more high maitnance, though. If i were to get someone a cat i would personally give them a calico, because they are very sweet and outgoing. I have a calico and never once since the 4 years and 3 months that i have had her did she ever bite. i think persians have a higher percentile of biting than raggdolls or calicos. If your daughter is going to be going to college soon, she needs a cat that doesn't demand much time. She needs something that isn't too needy, either. Out of the two, i would personally get a RAGDOLL, but otherwise, definatly another CALICO!!

Ragdoll (if those are the only breeds you'd consider), because Persians need daily dedicated grooming with not just brushing but their flat faces causes brown goop to constantly drip down their faces out of their eyes due to the unnatural flat nose. They tend to have a lot of health problems. Also, Persians are sweet, but they're not the most intelligent cats.... Ragdolls are great beceause like the name suggests, they make great easy going lap cats that you can hold any old way. I had a friend once who took her ragdoll kayaking with her. The cat was so mellow, he'd just sit on her lap calmly.

Personally I'd recommend a Maine Coon due to the superior intelligence, gorgeous soft long fur and just all around magnificence (it's the largest cat) of the breed. But between your 2 definately Ragdoll!!!

my grandmother had a ragdoll and they are very friendly and attached to their owners perisans are very pretty and they are so long haired you have to be comimetd to groom the cat the ragdoll id shorter hair than presian but still longhaired perisans are like the snobs of the cats somtimes not all the time ragdolls are not mean at all and easliy trained they hve shorter hair than persians and ragdolls are less active then most cats and the fur of the ragdoll is soft as a rabits ragdolls are more relaxed when held they are very good with children and easy to introduce to other pets

I have never had a persian, but I have a 14- y.o. ragdoll who is the coolest cat EVER in the whole, wide, world! He is a sweetie, never in trouble, supervises all jobs in the house, snuggles at night, follows a daily routine, can be a stinker... I can't say enough about my boy! I wish I had 10 more. (and go for a blue bicolor!)

I love the Ragdolls they are beautiful and big and sweet and I just love them! I like Persans too but they can be a bit moody and they are a bit funny looking, I say the Ragdoll is the best!

I would get a very low-maintenance domestic short hair (yeah, the plain old cats in the shelter). The short hair won't become matted when she gets bored and stops brushing her. Also the short nosed breeds are prone to breathing issues, they are a bigger anesthesia risk even for routine surgeries like a spay. Plus, if you adopt from a shelter you are saving money and a life!

I have a persian and he is a great cat. Very laid back and loving. Beautiful coat, very interactive cat. The only thing is they require alot of brushing, and make sure you get one from a good breeder.

Ragdoll. Great sweet personalities. Persians can be so hateful and aloof, especially females.
