buying Sam Harris's book, "Letter to a Christian Nation." I'd been flipping through it, and wondering if there were any rational people in the US. When the cashier was ringing up my purchase, she looked at me oddly and asked, "Are you an atheist?"

I said, "Yes."

I thought she would give me the judgmental stare or something like that (to let me know she disapproved), but instead she smiled and said, "Me too. It's so good to meet another atheist."

And it is, isn't it? One of the reasons I keep coming to Y!A is because there are so many atheists here. Have you ever had an experience like this?

nearest i came to that i saw a lady putting a note on the windshield of a car-when i looked curiously at her she explained to me that she was leaving the note over a bumper sticker that was on the car-it seems she wasnt happy with the sticker-it read-excuse me for missing you in church sunday but i was busy practicing witchcraft and becoming a lesbian---i finding that very funny went to my car and got paper and pen to leave a note myself-the lady thought that was a good thing till she saw what i had wrote-as she was stomping off the owner of the car came up and asked what i was doing-after a short explaination and learning that notes were a common thing we became good friends and still are to this day---enjoy the night

Well, not with atheism, but one day - several months after 9/11 - I was shopping at the grocery store. I was buying cheese. That stupid hero song by that Englasias (sp) guy came on. I started wining and saying "I'm gonna be your heeeerooooo after I'm done sooooobiiiiing into the miiiiicroooooophooooone." I heard a small laugh. I looked over and this woman said "I know, I'm sick of that song too." I was glad that she identified with me insead of thinking I was a total nutjob.

So I know that isn't atheism, but its nice to find someone who relates when you think you may find someone who would distain you.

first of all, you're an fool. 2nd, you're an fool. Is it "evil" to hold stones on your pocket for stable success? How previous are you? Why is it which you Jesus freaks think of each and every little thing in the international besides your dumb e book is "evil"? What a slender-*** view on existence! It would desire to truly suck having to stroll by way of existence being so terrified of each and every little thing in the international. "Evil" this and "evil" that, it somewhat is all on your infantile little strategies! in the adventure that your lady buddy had her wits approximately her she'd unload your sorry in the back of and circulate out with a actual guy who does not take a seat around on the internet asking questions like "Are stones evil!?". What a comedian tale. the sole element "evil" here is the fact that folk such as you're actually not someway banned from procreating.

If you want to meet Christian men in the bookstore, you need to go into the stalls in the men's room. They'll be the ones tapping their feet and reaching under the stall walls.

The cashier was an atheist and told me I was an idiot

Yeah, every once in a while something similar to that happens to me. It is gratifying and encouraging. And, like you, that feeling of connection with like-minded people (limited though it is due to the restrictions of the forum) is primarily what keeps me coming back.

I do enjoy when someone starts a conversation that allows me to express my non-theism. Usually they get a chance to vent their spleen about the church for the first time in ages, even if they still hold onto their theism. It's kind of amazing that they people feel so hemmed in by the church that they cannot speak their own ideas until they find someone who won't sit in judgment of them.

And here we thought it was just so you could make fun of people who don't believe the same way you do!

Oh, this was just for atheists, wasn't it? And here I horned in with a smart remark where it wasn't welcome. Just had to put my two cents' worth in with no regard for your feelings.

How does it feel?

Nah, where I live, atheists are a dime a dozen. But I liked your story.
