I agree with some others who asked how you know she is addicted.

If she has a prescription, there must be a reason for her to take it.

Just be very careful and sure of your facts before making these accusations. It is wonderful that you are concerned about your mom. Get your facts together and talk to your dad again.

He will be more receptive if you have specific instances and facts.

How does ur Mom get access to her Vicoden? Does she have a prescription? I guess it is difficult to peg an addiction if she has a prescription. If she is getting it off the streets, that is another issue. I understand ur concerns, okay? Does ur Father KNOW that she takes Vicoden? What doesn't he see? Here are some sites that may help you out. Vicoden is habit forming, but, if prescribed by a Physician, there is obviously a reason for this need to take these pills. If you are truly concerned, talk to someone that knows ur family well. Like a good friend of ur Mom's. Why make ur Grandparent's become upset, right? Does ur Mom have a sister/brother. I hope this helped out. Take care and Good luck!

I would do some investigation while she is away. Try to find the bottle and count them, then the next day do the same thing at about the same time if you can. This should let you know about how many a day she is popping. Also, try taking them and stashing them somewhere that she won't find them and that won't get you yelled if she finds out you did it. If this does not work because she was able to go to the pharmacy and get more or somebody is dealing them to her. This is what you also need to check into. Especially if on her script it is not refillable, if it is refillable then do the counting. How long has this been going on for? Because maybe it is time for a family intervention just with your immediate family. Has her behavior been irratic or certain tasks been slacking that she normally does? This could also tell you how long it has been going on for. Sorry if I can't be of anymore help. Good Luck!!

If she doesn't want help, she's not likely to get it. Help yourself. If you live in an area where there are Nar-Anon meetings, try at least one. They are specifically for families of someone who is dependent upon drugs. If there's not one in your local area, look for Al-Anon meetings (or Ala-Teen if you're still a teenager). They're primarily for family members of alcoholics, but they're usually understanding of people who have family members with any type of addiction; they may also be able to help you find supportive resources for yourself.

Good Luck!

Look at you mom's prescription, and locate the name of the doctor. Call the doctor's office and tell the doctor about your concerns. Pharmacists can also help. Make sure you give them a phone number of a cell phone or friend's phone so they don't call back and have your mom answer the phone.

How do you know she is addicted? Thats my first question, next would be why is she being prescribed it? As it is addictive most doctors only give for short term usage. So I guess there needs to be more info here.

Is she taking it for medical reasons?
You cannot be addicted if you have pain, yes it is a narcotic but for pain control it is a necessity, I have chronic pain and am on it,where is she getting it from? A Dr. or on the streets?
if she takes it to get a buzz or whatever by all means tell a family member who will help you to get her help.

Talk to your grandma or grandpa about it or maybe an aunt or uncle - any close relative you feel comfortable with, will understand your concern and help you.
