I take Effexor XR 150 mg once day.
My doctor tried me on quite a few. I was in a really black, deep depression. The Effexor works and it works well. I did try cutting my dosage down but within two weeks of doing so I could tell it wasn't a good idea. I am quite happy with it so I'm staying on.

I'm taking anti-depressants, but I wouldn't recommend a specific one, because what works for one person may be horrible for another. (I speak from experience.) It all depends on your physiological make-up. Unfortunately, right now, the only way to find out is through trial and error.
Anti-depressants can take a while to start working, so it's a good idea to give whatever med you're on a chance to kick in. (How long it takes can vary from person to person, too.) But keep the lines of communication open with your doctor, tell them how you're feeling, and report any side effects. If you really feel Paxil is wrong for you, though, tell your doc, and ask for something else.

I took Paxil for so many years, I forgot what I was like off them. Stopped taking them, and over the space of about 6 years, I started obsessively worrying about things, suffering insomnia, and had occasional panic attacks. Then went onto Lexipro and noticed a gradual, but visible change. Worth it for me. Although, I have to mention that I suffered sexual side effects with both. I have no problems with the physical function of my penis, but I lost interest in sex. When I do have sex, 75% of the time I can never achieve orgasm. While that sounds great at first, it gets real annoying in the long run, as you weigh whether having sex is worth all the energy, when I won't reach my goal. For some people, it may not be worth it, but I'm sure this reaction isn't the same for everyone.

I thought Paxil was really bad..and they took people off of it because of side effect. They must have changed it. My dr. won't give it to me..gave me a generic he said was like it...but wasn't. I've tried Paxil before and liked it. Right now I don't take any thing but risperdal half mg. at night for PTSD. I tried other anti depressants, but they made my legs jerk..and I can't stand that. So I just "deal with it".

I take Effexor (250 mg) and it works really well for me. I used to take Lexapro which was also pretty good but my insurance wouldn't cover it anymore and I had to switch. At first it made me a little dizzy but that was the only side effect I noticed. Now I feel pretty good, I'm not suicidal anymore and the depression has lifted a lot but not 100%. There is a sexual side effect for me, lost most of my sex drive and cannot orgasm. I also take Abilify (30 mg) and Klonopin (1.5 mg). A few years ago I was on Zoloft (200 mg) but it did nothing for me at all.

I was on paxil for several years as well. I had exceeded the recommended dose and was then switched to Effexor. It has been about a year. The switch went well, no problems. And it works as well as the paxil once did.

Effexor: It worked from the outset. I had shaky hands (side affect) for about 6 months, but it wasn't noticeable or annoying. I also take Lamictal, which really evens out my mood swings.
I would recommend Lamictal to anyone. No side effects. Great medication. Effexor is great too...BUT I heard that it is hard to get off of it, so I don't know if it's right for everyone.

Lexapro. It was actually prescribed for OCD, but not only fixed that, it also handled anxiety and depression that I didn't even know I had.
Best part: I felt NORMAL for the first time in years.
Only side effect: Drenching sweats off and on for the first couple months. They went away.

Try Effexor. Will cause some weird feelings and headaches in the beginning but I thought it was worth it in the end.

well i take lexapro and it seems to help a lot. I started taking lexapro after a failed suicide attempt and it seemed to help me alot. Another anti-depressant that works is abilify because one of my family members take it.
