I have a 6 1/2 month old kitten(Oh yeah!! BIG GUY) who has been hassled by a cohabitater TOM. When he was little it was a sketchy OK, Then at about 5 months apparantly he could smell my kitten getting into adult hood. He was neutered on wednesday.(10-3-07) When will the TOM realize that the little big guy is no longer a threat?

Same genders take a loong time to get used to each other. Especially males. They can be very teritorial. My two cats still fight at least once a day, and their of different genders.

There isn't a lot of information about the TOM in your question, but I'm guessing it has been the TOM's territory for a while. It isn't just a matter of having the new kitten neutered. Bringing a second cat into the picture will take time for the TOM to adjust to. Some cats never really adjust to a second cat being around, and others adjust quickly. Just make sure you give the TOM plenty of attention so that he knows he's still the Alpha male.

I use to breed maine coon cats, and I found that it can take a couple months for all the hormones to totally leave.. Just make sure Tom still knows he is the alpha cat, and that the younger one knows that as well..It can take some time for things to settle. I've seen it take 6-8 months to settle down.. It also depends on how old the other cat is, and if he was a stud cat, or neutered later in life, that can also play into the picture..

I say never! Only because there is a natural pecking order, and in TOM's point of view, He is the King of the Road!
