Environmental degradation is a global problem. Once again, by pointing this out, you will irritate some people even if what you say is true. We all have a responsibility, wherever we live, in China and elsewhere. We can make a difference if we put pressure on our government to legislate the protection of our natural resources. We can force the government to protect our waters from unscrupulous polluters dumping toxic chemicals in rivers or spewing poisons in our air. Use and consume less, reduce and eliminate your consumption of useless cheap products from Mal-Wart, reuse, recycle, walk or take public transportation, boycott companies that pollute, frown upon people who drive big SUVs and Hummers, teach your children not to become mindless consummers, stop wasting water, don't water your lawn, use less pesticides or chemicals, buy organic food, don't let your car idling for nothing, make compost, stop burning coal....the list of things we can do individually is very long, but we can all affect the outcome if we all decide to take individual action and ownership of our lives. If you cannot afford to do all this, at least do as much as you can.

Unfortunately it's very easy for the more developed world to point fingers at people who are still developing their industries. Unfortunately China is very much a developing country, and cannot yet afford to 'clean up' it's act like western companies are trying to do now with carbon offsetting and aiming for carbon neutrality. It costs a lot of money to do that, either in making machines and factories more effecient, using alternative fuels, or investing in large plantations of forest. China is still developing is technology and as yet is unable to run effeciently on less polluting fuels [it also has less ability to do so, China is rich in coal but lacking in oil] and is also less able to mop up these pollutants with filters or offsetting them with tree plantations.
Ideally it would be great if the world was a global village and technological gains and resources from other countries were spread around more equally, so China had more opportunities to run cleaner. Untill it can afford to do so, it probably won't. However now that the environmental impacts are clear [which they haven't always been] they are more likely to be motivated to follow suit with other industries and try and cut pollutions, something it has taken more developed countries far too long to realise they should be doing.

please if you can do something to improve the environment in China i will be appreciated you.
I'm a chinese. The hometown i grow up is very beautiful when i was little.but now in 10years,most of the forest disappear, because many villages people cut the trees and sell the wood for money. And as more factories move in,the river i once swimming in has become black with many colors now.no one dare use the river's water to irrigate their farm,no one dare to put their ducks to the river now.
If the government say that we need to develop so we must have factories. But why dont you develop in some other smarter way? You can see most of the trees in the hills are missing, why dont you stop them? And our hometown has advantages to plant oil camellia trees. If the whole town and small villages make their deserted hills planting full of oil camellia trees.every poor family in town and villages will have more great income.Have they ever make any marketing search for the poor farmer that camellia oil is expensive?
If all the people plant camelia trees they will probably eat camellia oil instead of the pig fact. Then people in the town will be more healthier and smarter.I'm very sad that we have such a local government that they can do nothing, but just waiting for the factory to bring them money but put the cost on polluting the whole nation's living environment.
they can do better.but they dont know how to.

ummmm so should america. yes china emits the most pollution, but it has 4 times the population of USA. individual chinese emits way less pollution while individual americans emits the most pollution per person so your question should be asking "Americans should think about the environment more?"

China is a big dump yard for US electronics. The US exports 80% of its electronic waste overseas. Your in a way hipocritical... like throwing garbage in your neighbors yard and then complaining about it to the Health Department.

I totally agree with you.
But surely it's about demand and supply. If everyone stops demanding, they'll have to stop supplying.
I feel for developing countries in a way - America & Europe have been mass producing for decades and now us "developed" countries have identified environmental impacts, we think the whole world should stop polluting. We've been doing it for years and have strong economies, why shouldn't they seize their opportunity??
As I say, I agree with you though - I'm building my ark as we speak.

so china is now responsible for polluting the world
washington post- western media...do you think that they will ever say anything good about china?
yes..china is shocking when it comes to pollution...but look..one-fifth of the world's total population live in China
the total population in one city alone- shanghai is more than the total population in Australia...get the point?
china do care about the environment but not everyone does..which is sad..but come to think of it...china did sign the kyoto treaty and guess who didn't? america and australia..HA!
