my best friend.

How many people in Religion and Spirituality have lost your best friend??

She didn't die.

That's what hurts the most.

She's still alive,

living her life,

and she doesn't want me in it anymore.

I did once and almost did another time. We were in high school, and I'd been going with this silly boy for a few months. I introduced them, and then three months later, he let me guess that he was breaking up with me for her.

Ah, high school.

My best friend and I didn't talk for two years. And then her dad died, and, although I don't remember this, she always reminds me that I was the first person there for her.

That was over ten years ago, and we are still best friends. If you ignore that two year gap, we've been best friends for almost 20 years.

The other time I almost lost her as my friend, I was spreading rumors and gossip about someone she was friends with. She flat out told me how disappointed she was in me, and it hurt so bad that I immediately apologized and vowed never to do it again. And I haven't. I literally stopped talking about people behind their backs that day. She changed my life because I almost lost her.

The thing about friends is that if you love each other unconditionally, even the most hurtful stuff won't matter after a while. Sure, I needed time to get over what she did to me, and she apologized for it for years after it was said and done. But we love each other, and absolutely nothing gets in our way now. We talk it through. Your best friends will always come back to you, but they may need time.

It'll suck for a while without her, but if she loves you unconditionally like a best friend should, she will move on in time, and she will come back to you.

And like the saying goes, if she doesn't come back to you, then your friendship was never meant to be.

I have never lost a best friend like that, but I wanted to say I'm very sorry for your loss. That must be extremely hard. I'm so sorry.

I wish I had something more with which to comfort you, but when you lose some one you care deeply about, all that matters is that they are no longer there, and you want them to be, desperately. So all I'll say is that your pain is not unnoticed. You have my condolences on your loss. May God bless and comfort you in your time of grief.

Seven years ago my best friend and life partner died from cancer. It's profoundly devastating.
