The Catholic Church teaches that it's wrong to try to thwart God's plan or to try to make God do what you want instead of accepting what God wants so the whole "suicide is bad" thing sprang from that.

However, the Church also teaches that you can't commit a mortal sin unless you did it knowingly and voluntarily. If a person is impaired and the impairment (such as mental illness) robbed him or her of free will or the abilty to control themselves then it's not a sin since they couldn't help it.

First of all, no-one is "already saved" while they are still alive on this earth. That notion is a modern tradition of men that no Christian on earth ever heard of until a few hundred years ago, and is completely unbiblical. The Bible says that those who endure TO THE END, they SHALL be saved. Paul compares earthly life to a race that we must run well if we wish to receive the prize, which is salvation. The prize in a race is awarded at the END of the race, not in the middle of it.

Secondly, the Catholic Church doesn't teach any such thing regarding suicide. The Catholic Church teaches that only mortal sin - what John calls "sin unto death", can condemn a person to hell. The Church further teaches that for mortal sin to occur, one must give full rational consent to committing the sin. It is doubtful that someone contemplating the most irrational act of all, self-destruction, is capable of giving full rational consent of his will. Therefore it is entirely possible that one who commits suicide may be saved, if all else in his life was spiritually in order.

No they don't ! The bible says the lifeless comprehend not something. Ecclesiastes 9:5. as nicely the wages of sin is dying not burning perpetually in a fictitious hell. Romans 6:23. Revelation 21:8 shows who would be thrown into the lake of fire and be conscious that they are going to die the 2d dying. as quickly as each and all of the wicked are burned up into ashes then hell would be not extra. those residing will walk on the ashes of the wicked and meaning they are lifeless not burning in hell perpetually.Malachi 4:3. people would be resurrected, given God's spirit, and function a raffle to get to comprehend who God somewhat is. Ezekiel 37:12-14. maximum persons do not somewhat comprehend God yet will interior the subsequent existence. Suicide is self homicide and consequently violates the 6th commandment thou shall not kill.

Because sometimes it does.

Once a person is born again (born of His Spirit, cleansed by His Blood, joint heirs with King Jesus & part of the family of God) That person is redeemed & inheritance is Gods Kingdom (Heaven).

But then if a person isn't born again & commits suicide, person is guilt of killing himself. So? If they were saved then they probably have to go through a bit. As all the works built on the Rock foundation that are the devils lies & unforgiveness will get fried but they will be saved as though through fire. But they won't get the rewards Jesus wanted to give them. Jesus wants to tell us, "Great is your reward...".

The Church teaches that those who take their own lives are likely in a state of diminshed mental capacity.

As such, we ask God to have mercy on them- He knows the state of their souls and the torment they were going through.

Those who kill themselves for no other reason than to just defy God or set a bad example...well....God will treat them in his justice.

they don't, you've been misinformed. my cousin hung himsef about 15+ years ago and was given a Christian burial and Mass. they DO believe it is wrong to take your life as it is a gift from God and it is not our choice but His as to when it will end. however they also understand that someone must be in great mental turmoil and thusly not in their right mind to take their own life.

God is the only one who should be deciding who lives and who goes

Because, in the interest of political conquest, Catholicism (the early years) needed as many people as possible to spread their power. Dead people are poor at helping out their government.

Same reason they discourage birth control. And these practices linger long past their usefullness.

legalism

Cathlocism is deeply based in false doctrine and salavtion through legalistic works. salvation is permanent and does not come and go at our actions.

I do however have personal doubts of the salvation of a person that would have such doubt in God's ability to help them that they would take their own life
