at my local shelter its 16 to volunteer and 18 to walk dogs
however we do allow kids over 12 to come in on a quite day and just spend the whole day playing with the cats and kittens that need socializing . Their parents can drop the kids off and let them play with the cats for a couple of hours.
But the shelter 15 minutes away from me lets kids 13 and up volunteer. it all depend son the individual shelter and what the volunteering job entitles.
If you cant volunteer ,dont be discouraged you can still help animals. You can do fundraisers, collect pet supplies , collect caans for money etc.
You can go to www.petfinder.com and look for shelters near you.On some shelters webpage it will tell you the voluneering info.

Based on my own experience with the Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals(ISPCA) I would say yes they would. The only way to find out is to go and ask them.Chances are they will find something for you to do.Animal shelters need all the volunteers they can get in my experience.Kudos to you for asking this question. The world needs more people like you.

Most shelters will let you volunteer if your at least 16 yrs. At the shelter where I volunteer, kids 12-15 can volunteer but one of their parents has to be present.
