There aren't many people who say this, but there are quite a few that do. Didn't those people remember that LAST TIME we tried to do that?

When did we tried to do that? The draft was abolished in the Nixon years and was an awful mistake. The proliferation of juvenal deliquency has risen to a uncontrolanle heights. The draft wolud serve two purposes if it's reinstated; Innoculate dicipline and sense of respect in this generation of irreponsible punks and prroperly staff the military.

The draft would allow the rich kids who don't care about anybody but themselves and the mall to fight for their country. It would allow the politicians son to go to war. The draft would be a good thing. A lot of people don't like the idea of one though, it means that our country would be staying in Iraq longer and we would probably have to be even more serious about Operation Iraqi Freedom. Men and women would be heading over there, so there wouldn't be a lot of people here to take over jobs that they have to leave behind. It would also put the country in more debt. People are afraid of their sons and daughters going to war. It's understandable. If we go to war with Iran or any other country, the draft is a possibility depending on which president we elect next. As well as the death count of that war. If the joining rate increases there will be no need for one though. This wont happen because the majority people think about themselves. Nobody wants to go to war. I don't think Bush will bring back the draft unless he absolutely HAS to.The death count in Iraq isn't high enough for a draft right now. Overall, it is VERY unlikely that the draft will be brought back. I don't think it will happen. The military works better as a volunteer force anyway, people actually WANT to be there. They want to do their job, thus increasing the safety and effectiveness of our military.

The moral of the troops may be low, I don't think so, but some do. I'd guess that this is because America does not care enough. America is at the movie theater watching the latest comedy or talking crap about Britney Spears instead of donating money to their troops. Or writing them a simple letter. Or sending them packages to let them know that they are thought about.

I'd like us to pull out of Iraq, but not any time soon. It's not safe for us to pull out at all...and it's very unlikely that this will happen regardless of what the presidential candidates tell you.

The pro-draft people only see it as the easiest way to fill the ranks without giving thought to the most important fact: the military doesn't want a draft. With a draft there's increased problems with draftees and there's ample studies to back that up. The military works better as an all volunteer force the troops we have WANT to be there. Starting with a highly motivated people makes the military stronger and we don't have to to waste resources with problem children.

Those that say the morale is low obviously don't have any experience in the military. My Army Infantry son is in Ramadi, Iraq at this moment and reports to me that his unit's re-up rate is very high. He just re-enlisted as well, even though he grumbles about the Army every day. Show me a soldier that doesn't grumble and I'd say he'd gone on to meet his maker.

We don't need a draft. We have a steady supply of smart, educated, motivated volunteers that will heed the call and keep the military filled.

Warning to people answering, don't mention Iraq, I answered yesterday that if you join the military you may go to Iraq, and it was flagged as an offensive answer.
So the draft would be good, because if you are drafted in the army, you will be able to be in the southern California surf patrol, and never have to leave the good ole USA
By the way," not many people who say this", and "quite a few" people that say this is completely opposite statements unless you are saying quire a few gerbils

Currently many of those who volunteer do so to get away from poverty. With a FAIR draft we would have the rich kids fighting and dying in the war too.
There was a lot of abuse in the draft during Viet Nam. Bush's own cushy assignment to an afield in the South is a good example. If your parents had money they could also keep you in school.
I also think that we would need to provide a non-violent alternative to combat jobs, like medical service.

Mostly libs say this and the reason they want it is because it would be away to help turn more people against the war. It is sad that people think that way but they so so oh well.
Contrary to liberal spin, the military is not made up of poor people escaping poverty and actually has a higher level of high school and college graduates than the general populace. When I was in, one of my roommates was a millionaire and a lot of officers come from money. Blacks are not overrepresented as falsly claimed and white combat casualties are overrepresented.

1. They have absolutely no awareness of the current needs of today's military or any appreciation of the human assets needed to fight this war against terrorism.
2. They think that re-introduction of the draft will magically bring back the protests, folk singers, street drugs and promiscuity of the 1960s.
I served in the era of conscription and in the all-volunteer force. I'll take the latter.

If the quality of those enlisting is good, and there are sufficient numbers, then I see no need for selective service UNLESS we find ourselves in a legitimate war as we had in 1941. If another "1941" were to happen, there would be long lines of those joining up as was in 1941.

9/11 was not a war brought upon us by a hostile government. It was brought upon us by radical Islamic extremeists. We are not fighting a nation. We are fighting an ideology of extreme evil. That ideology has no home country. We can not tie a government to it that absolutely sends it against us. No Middle eastern nation has made a declaration of war against us. We are fighting a twisted religion, waged by twisted individuals, not any government. (that we can prove)

Because the ones that say that most likely aren't eligible for the draft. The reason the older age people are void from the draft is because they have more experience in the real world and are less likely to shut up and do what they are told, while a teenager would. I'm twenty two, which if I were drafted I wouldn't go. I'm not suicidal.

Anyways, a draft would be the most stupid military tactic yet. It would cause riots.

Americans are not joining the service in the numbers that are needed to fight the war, If they do not want the draft, join the service to their country. The Neo/cons that support the war (of fighting age) Veteran or not , Why are you sitting at home listening to Fox News. Go fight the war you support or you choose to fight your war behind your computer . Its a lot safer!
