I do not think so. Like Dale Sr. used to say about Talladega, The best way to avoid the big one is to lead the race.
The reason qualifying went the way it did was set up. The chasers and the rest of the top 35 are more concerned with race set up and how their car will perform for the race, as this is an impound race. They are unable to do any modifications now on their cars till the first pit stop.
I think today's qualifying is a perfect example of how the top 35 rule does not work.

No "sand-baging", just qualifying in race trim instead of qualifying trim. They were guaranteed a spot in the race, so they could afford to set up for the race since it's an impound race. Now if the "big one" is in the beginning of the race, they will be running right into it!

No. The go or go homers had a qualifying setup in their car to insure they will make the race. This will result in most of those guys having engine or mechaqnical problems because they have maxed out their preformance. The top 35 put in their setup for the race for race preformance. Hopefully we can advoid the big one until the chase contenders make it to the front of the pack. Hope that helps.

Nope its a impound race, all the top 35 guys were in race set up..the go or go homers were in qualifying set up, andthe guys in the back will be making their way to the front real quick....This could be the making of a big one, just hope all drivers, drive smart its a 500 mile race. Its going to be a very interesting race...Now if a toyota wins....that will be a total OMG What happened at 'Dega...yikes..

I believe its what the top 11 that were go or go homers? Those 11 guys are going to drop to the back and the other guys who qualified with their race step-ups will be up in the front by lap 20

It's an impound race so the guys in the top 35 qualified in race trim while the guys who had to make it on time were in qualifying trim. Watch for the guys in the front to make their way to the back after a few laps.
Good to see you by the way! I almost posted the question, "Where's Tina???".... LOL

I don't think that is the case. I mean ,the "big one" is usually in the back or at least mid pack.
It is kind of crazy though at how the line up looks like it was all reversed. Meaning those who are normally last are first and vis versa.

Most of the chase drivers were set up for racing and were not as fast.Since this is an impound race setting up for the race was the best choice.
