You don't need a license to fish from the pier. Only if you go freshwater fishing (at lakes and rivers) Hermosa is a really nice place to go fishing. My buddies and I go a lot during the summer but at about this time of the year, you won't get much bite. I was there last week and we didnt' catch anything when we would normally catch a bunch of fish there. Well, hermosa is open 24/7 and never closes so bring a tent and chill =) good luck fishing!

ive fished many of the piers in southern cali. you dont need a fishing license for any ocean front piers such as hermosa or manhattan. check out www.pierfishing.com . theres a lot of info for you here. i would recommend getting the book.

Last I checked, not even a license needed for pier fishing.
Used to be the reg's said no license needed fro any man made structure affixed to land. Which meant piers, jetty's breakwaters and docks. I believe this has been changed, but piers were still exempt. Check Ca. DFG. to be sure for specific areas.
