Well those are all nice scenarios but you are missing the point,it can also apply to time and money consuming projects that are totally unnessary, suchas keep repairing the same roadway over and over because we haven't used the "right" material in the right season.Happens in every state, they will never be repaired. Not because its impossible but because then that money would no longer be there and no state is willing to give it up.Same with taxes we all complain about them but when your cause is brought forward you get everyone to indorse it never giving any thought to the consumer which will one day no longer be able to pay to fix everything just like rome.Where are those who have a real workable idea thats fair to everyone? That idea must work in all climates in all cities and states get off the bandwagon and start trying to fix it or leave well enough alone.Thats what it means.

If something needs improvement, then there is something wrong with that thing. However, the saying means, if there is NOTHING wrong with a thing, don't try to fix it.

The saying should be taken at face value. It's meant for committees and people who waste a lot of time trying to fix what doesn't need fixing and spend no time fixing what does need to be fixed.

I would apply this saying to the Texas department of Child Protective Services. They make big cases out of things that are not cases at all, and virtually ignore the dying children that are right under their noses. They recently underwent a serious overhaul... let's hope it helps.

Interested to know what things in the Environment need 'improving on?' Because man's intervention has broken far more than he could ever fix in this regard.

I agree with the statement 'If it aint broke dont fix it' learn FROM nature, she has millions of tried and tested models, solutions to problems that man is still trying to work out.
She collects materials from the location, builds, not destroys and leaves no mess that cannot be returned to the soil and further enrich it.

There are amazing things happening in the Biological sciences and business needs to help with challenges. Have a look at the biomimicry links below: Biomimicry is learning an idea from an organism in nature and applying it to design. Not just copying natural solutions but observing then learning FROM nature.

Everything is built to fail...I am in the appliance repair industry and when I told the manufacturer how to improve the product, I was told that it was designed to fail within 5 years .This was so the consumer had to buy another !!! There is something wrong with a society that is based on how much money they can accumulate. At the end of the day, you cant eat money. I think society is broken, its aims and direction need to be fixed.

I think this saying is a saying which unfortunately recieved too much fame and respect because if you think about what it is saying, it really does not make sense. Take for example a business owner who discovers there is a problem in his business but it is not yet broke. Should he wait until the problem becomes big to fix it or wouldnt it be wiser (and probably cheaper) to call in his hired experts to analyse the problem and take some precautionary steps so that it does become a bigger problem?

This can imply to global warming as well or any environmental problem (since we are in the environment section of questions). Just because global warming has not broke our environment does not mean we should not take precautionary steps to help avoid the big problem.

It takes me about a month to fill my bin, but a family of say 4, will fill it much faster, my recycle bin takes at least 3 months to fill. I live about half a mile from the nearest road yet they come and empty them both once a week. I pointed this out to the council, their attitude was that they did not want to 'complicate the system'.

The saying doesn't always work . I need new brakes for my car as they are worn down but I'm not going to wait until they don't work. Although sometimes people fiddle on with an unnessaray job and make it work. Improvement is good

If it *needs* improving, then it's not a case of "ain't broke".
