Christian fanatics are scary and just as liable to engage in acts of terrorism as any other group of religious fanatics. I am just as alarmed by bigoted propoganda spouted by christians as by any other group.

I used to be so bitter about the amount of influence Christianity has on my life... on the radio, at work, in the classroom, etc.; but then I realized that any type of action against the commercialization of religion (Christianity, particularly) will have to take place in a location outside of Nebraska (a very Christian state in America, which I currently reside in), with a tight-knit group of people opposed to it. This has been happening in Europe, and I think this is our source of inspiration for reasoning against religion, but only time will tell if it will take hold in America. Things are looking up; so don't sit around and stew over it (it's not actually ruining your life, as I used to assume). If you have the capability, organize a group and help us take strides as a society!
(PS: I've read a convincing article (sorry, forgot the title) about the negative effects that the polygamous society embraced by Muslim traditions creates, and the way that this has been a main factor in the development of terrorism. Oh, and by the way, terrorism is not even slightly correlated with any other religion than Islam; so don't be a friggin idiot and say that the same things could happen or even have happened in today's Christian societies of the West (like America).)
Oh, and I guess, to answer your question, not really... always be alert of your suroundings, but you don't have to be alarmed in this case...

We should first of all see that there are fanatics in every organized religion, What about Muslim fanatics. There are wonderful Muslim people all over the world, yet some have taken their own interpretations of their religion and turned it into something dreadful. Unfortunately, the "good" muslims are receiving prejudicial treatment because of the fanatics. I am never alarmed at any fanatic religious actions, because I know that they are, fearful, angry people, who feel that they are right and everyone else is wrong. If you are Christian remember "forgive them father for they know not what they do" and I am sure in every religion there are quotes that tell their members to forgive.
Don't be alarmed or alert, because you are wasting your time and energy. Be the best person YOU can be. Have you heard the saying, again from Jesus I believe. "Seek and ye shall find". To me part of that interpretation is look for the bad and you will always find it, look for the good and it will be there for you.

I think we are passed alert and have traveled firmly into the arena of the alarmed. Some of the things that are attempted, the erosion of personal rights and liberties, simply because they do not agree with what some people choose is deplorable on its own without the self-righteous justifications that are used to do it.
I am actually beyond alarmed at this point.
Peace,
Jenn

We should be alert to the actions of ANY fanatics who hate members of a group whose beliefs are different from theirs.
This includes those who hate all Christians just because they believe in God.

There have been Christian fanatics in society for as long as there has been Christianity. We should be alert AND alarmed and we need to vigorously oppose their ongoing attempts to legislate their oppressive theocracy.

We have to be alert, because they're not living the Message. They're reshaping it to suit their other non-religious, non-spiritual agendas - just like the fanatics of other faiths do.
But we shouldn't be alarmed, because when you become alarmed you tend to lose your head a little - and we need to keep our heads when dealing with fanatacism of any kind.

The only thing more intolerant then a fanatical Christian, is a fanatical Atheist.
This forum is a perfect example of how a few self proclaimed Atheists cling to the word as an excuse to act intolerant toward others.

Well here is hoping Gullianni gets the republican nod. If that happens the religious right has sworn to run a 3rd party candidate. Hopefully they will fail so miserably it will be the start of the decline of the religious right

We need to be alert to cults & hardliners regardless of who's interests they claim to represent. The more powerful they are the more alert we must be.
