Does he love holding your hand or having you sit on his lap when you are alone?
If not he just wants other males to know that you belong to him, you're his property so everyone else stay away.

He is just probably very affectionate. He likes to feel close to you and maybe the holding hands helps that. The fact that he is doing the small things like that and not just sex means that he gunuinely has an interest in you.
