she should get rid of it, she was sweeping by her door and came up to me asked, what's the best way to get rid of this cat, or what can I do so it doesn't want to come back here?
I just looked at her like if she was crazy and left.....
What would you have done?

Offered to take it and get it a new home. Nobody should hit at a cat! Was it hers? Does it belong to someone in the neighborhood? Geez!

If she doesn't want it on her porch, have her put mothballs around, cats can't stand the smell of those. She can spray at it with a hose, but definately don't HIT the cat!

Does your neighbour know that their visitor is being abusive to their cat? You need to tell them because if your neighbour cares for their cat they will be horrified and hopefully get rid of the visitor.

If the owner doesn't care about the cat, then its best to try to find it a new home or call animal welfare. Animals shouldn't have to suffer cruelty, so see if there is anything you can do to help it.

I would have offered to take it. If I couldn't keep it myself then I would have found a new home for it. No way would I have left that poor kitty in it's situation. It sounds as though you were dumbfounded by the comment though and just didn't know what to say. Is it possible to go back and ask her if you can have it, or just go get it?

It might have been better to confront the situation in an effort to control the result. Avoidance only leaves the decision in her hands, not the best outcome for this poor cat.

I would ask her to take it to the Humane Society and also reported her to them for animal abuse! Do you condone this behavior? Actions speak louder than words. Saying or doing nothing speaks a lot too. What do you know you should do?

If you are not interested in keeping it, direct her to your nearest animal shelter. They will find the cat a good home.
