She refuses to change into the robe. The will not let the doctor see her. We tried many doctors and neither of them can do a proper exam because she needs to keep on all her clothes. Is this common? Are there tips you have hear of or used?

Firts of all why does she need such a thorough exam like that yet? She is still young. No one wants to have doctors poking and prodding, especially when it is in awkward places. If the examination is absolutely necessary then talk to her about how important it is and see if she will let a female daughter see her. Or maybe she could keep a bra and undies on?

Try taking her to meet the female doctors before her initial appointment, and let her pick a doctor she is comfy with. Just explain to the nurse on the phone what the problem is and I am sure they can set up a consultation for her.

Make dad leave the room, and only have mom in there with her when she sees the doctor for the actual appointment. Have the doctor explain everything she is going to do before she does it, so your daughter knows what to expect. She could just be feeling shy, who knows. Talk to her about it.

Another thing you could try is bring her with you for your next gyno appointment and let her see that her mom has to go through doctor appointments in a paper robe and is just fine.

Can you negotiate a little? Maybe she could wear a camisole and panties under her robe? Or see a female doctor?
Tell her to give a good reason, before you go. Maybe bribery...
Think about this - how often do you actually have to take off ALL your clothes at the doc?
Can't they listen to heart, lungs under her shirt? And examine belly by unzipping pants without removing them?
Are you certain she hasn't been abused?

Sounds like she has a normal modesty range for her age.. This is a very good thing to have..
Have you tried having a female Doctor look at her?. Maybe she should go with you to the doctors and see that you also have to do this.

Good Luck

why does she needs to wear a robe? Neither of my kids have ever had to put on a gown for regular doctor's visits.

Has she been abused? Do you stay with her? It is normal to be shy but not to the point of not getting the check up. Speak to the doctor in private about it. Ask your daughter why she is afraid.

its hard to tell maybe shes self concious about her body or lets hope she hasnt had a bad experience like sexual abuse
but im 17 and i will never go to a doctor where i have to get naked unless i am dying , which glady it hasnt happened yet. it just makes me uncomfortable and thats all
but to talk to her about it to see if its just that shes uncomfortable or if theres something else.
let her know she can trust in you and speak to her really nicely

I don't blame her. I'm 15 and I would NEVER let a doctor see me.

She doesn't need an exam, I've never had an exam and I'm fine.

Just leave it alone.

You need a female docter. You need to talk to your child. She is most likely being sexually abused or has been sexually abused at some point in her life. You NEED to talk to her as she is the only one who knows!
