Its clear in the scriptures that many did not understand when he spoke of tearing down the temple and rebuilding it in 3 days...the temple was Christ. It did not make them unbelievers

Dear mango,
The Scriptures tell us that Jesus' followers mourned his death. They did not understand that the Kingdom he was establishing was not a "political kingdom". Many of the disciples were discouraged and went back to their original jobs- until they realized that Jesus rose again when he appeared personally to them.
The Scriptures do not really tell us about the public sentiment- the disciples were initially in hiding after Jesus' death -- they were afraid and fearful. But we know from the gospels that there were those who did see Jesus as a good teacher and a moral fellow (but not necessarily saw Him as their God and Savior).
You may be able to find the answer by reading the gospels more closely as well as reading some books on Historic Christianity that may record the sentiments of people during that time.
Hope that helps. Kindly,
Nickster

I am sure that they mourned his death, as they probably did not fully understand at the time what was taking place. It was not until after He died could that really be understood spiritually. I think that Peter understood that He was the Son of God, but not sure about the plan for salvation. Maybe someone else has more information to this.

I'm sure his mom and dad mourned, along with his friends.
What an inane question. Would someone mourn your death?
