Use a heating pad on the side of your face. Don't put anything in the ear canal.

I know this will sound odd, but it works. I do this every couple of weeks. Take a QTip and dip it in hydrogen peroxide and let a couple drops drip into your ear canal. Lay down with the ear with it in up. Make sure you have a towel handy cause any that spills will make stuff change colors, like your hair. Let it stay in there for a couple of min. It will pop and fizz and fell a little strange. After a couple min let it drain into the towel and clean out your ear with a clean Qtip. You won't believe the junk that will come out. I'm in the desert so it really helps get out the dust and sand and built up wax.

Get you some sweet oil from your pharmacy and warm it up, put some on a cotton ball. Just enough to drop some in your ear and put the cotton in there over night and when you wake in the morning it should be all better. Home remedy from my grandmother. So I know it works.

A couple of drops of olive or corn oil
also place a wet ( not dripping ) cotton ball in a Styrofoam cup -heat it in the microwave and press the opening against your ear. An old stewardess trick

Try Hyland's earache drops. You can get them over the counter. They are in the ear section of the pharmacy or the baby section sometimes.
