I believe that The Ritz and the Ritz Carlton are two different things. The Ritz name is heavily protected by various Registers. The Ritz Carlton is a different name.
Rooms at the Ritz start at $600 a night. it is truely fabulous and has a long and amazing history. Coco Channel lived there for 30 years.

the ritz is the most famous hotel in Paris. it is located in the place vendôme where all the famous jewellers are.
I believe Mr Carlton stole the name.
