It may even be easier. Consider the number of book believers who are equally sure that those who believe in other books (or sometime even other versions of the same book) are wrong. They can't all be right, so most of them must be wrong!
As far as how to tell? For truth in the factual sense it takes careful observation and critical thinking. For truth in the spiritual sense it means knowing your own heart. In both cases, you need to be able to be honest with yourself.

*Is Catholic*
According to Catholic Dogma (see Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma by Ott)
it is possible for humans to discern the difference between Truth and Falsehood.
The specific tool, as listed in the dogma is called REASON.
Vatican I declared this to be a dogmatic truth
.
Scripture in Wisdon 12:1-9, Romans 1:20, Romans 2:14, Acts 14:14:16, 17:26-29 also show this to be true, BTW.

The holy book was not a fax sent down from heaven. It has been edited and revised by man. The truth, when searching for the truth you can look to the exterior, however, all you are getting is someone else's version. The truth lies in your own abilities to distinguish on a gut level, intuition, what is real and what is not.

Your own intuition? My religion does not have any "holy books" and I think I'm pretty well-rounded... and there's a difference between tangible and abstract truth... abstract truth is the one you really do need your own intuition for.

Truth being a verifiable fact.
Falsehood is a totaly unverified statement of happening as somebody would like you or themselves to believe.
Look around and weigh up the facts for yourself.

You just need math. 2+2=4 which is true. 2+2=5 which is false.

No...only God's word is 100% infallible. Man's word always has a chance for lies and deception because we are not perfect like our Father.

Well, a lot of us learn from the Bible. I got introduced to Christ by my parents who were introduced to Him by the Bible. So if the Bible wasn't there, probaly most of us wouldn't know He's there.
