I love them both, so I have to be careful here.
I was always a dog person. The I moved to apartments when they were not allowed so began adopting cats.
While both are very loving and good company, dogs seem to want to please you more than cats. The are much more pliable and obedient. But they also require more attention and company and are prone to boredom so must also be entertained. Plus, they have to be cleaned up after when it comes to nature calls.
Cats are very content for the most part to require your company and attention only part-time. This works well for me as I would be unable to leave a dog in my apartment all day because I think that would be cruel. Many dogs develop behavior problems as a result. But my cat sleeps all day and when I get home I let her outside so she is very happy. I can also go away for the weekend and she is just fine with it.
So, for a family with lots of children where a dog can get lots of attention, that is probably the way to go.
But for a single person who has to be gone any length of time a cat is the ideal pet.♥

All depends on what your looking for in a pet.
Dogs need to be walked & played with.
Most cats take their own walks or better yet
are kept as indoor 24/7 pets. You do need to
give cats some attention. When the cat wants
to play or be petted the cat will let you know.
So dogs are higher maintenance than cats.

You know, it all depends on your personal preference. A cat can be very independent, and may or may not want to be held, but it's usually whenever THEY decide; most like to sleep with you.
A dog will follow you around and be under foot wherever you go. Some will want to lie in your lap constantly, most want to sleep with you as well. (Depends how big a dog you want how some things play out).
I have 4 dogs and 1 cat.
Pro for the cat = don't have to walk it
Con for the cat = have to scoop the litter box
Pro for the dog = your buddy all day long
Con for the dog = you have to take it outside to do it's business in all kinds of weather, and walk it to give it exercise. And you need to pick up after it.
None of the cons matter to me, I scoop 2-3x a day, and I pick up after my dogs outside. I've had the dogs for many years, and we have a great routine going.
Again...personal preference plays.

Depends what you want from your pet. Dogs are more sociable and provide more active companionship while cats are somewhat aloof and their companionship is more of a passive nature. Dogs require more time and energy on a daily basis, and advance planning if you travel. Cats can fend very well for themselves and don't need to be walked and taken to a special boarding place if you're going to be away.

dogs are beautiful loyal and loving they also **** everywhere piss everywhre chew your belongings bark into de nite all nite bite ya big dogs are dangerous round kids an their owners small dogs are less lethal but certainly vicious at times. Where as cats sleep most of the day they will definitely relieve themselves in a littertray once der introduced to one from an early age they will be affectionate won't bark into the night are also less costly in de vets will catch mice and actually will deter mice from ur home der a very easy pet all round

depends. Cats get my vote 'cause they are clean, quiet and easy to take care of. Eat less than dogs and purrr you to sleep. They have good manners like people are supposed to. Easy to love and very expressive-they're like little fuzzy people without opposable thumbs. Earn a cat's respect and you've made a friend for life. Smart, too.

I would say a cat because a dog needs alot of exercise and if u get a dog u have to play with it.If u get a cat it can run around in the house to exercise.A cat can also intertain itself. Its just playing with itself.(I use to have one)!!
