Question

A. Call the number on the tag and when a confused old lady answers assume that it means that she's giving you her dog.
B. Snatch the dog and hide it in your house because if it has any owners they must be BAD owners, letting it out.
C. Take it to the animal shelter.
D. Lock your kids and dogs in the house because THAT kind of dog is really MEAN.
E. Scan the dog for a microchip, call its owner, put up signs and take care of it until you hear from its owner.
F. Give the dog to breed rescue.
G. Your choice... If none of the above suit your needs, you can tell us what the perfect thing for this doggie is.

I know this is a tough one! I've seen people answer all of the above in their questions, so it might be difficult to figure out the right answer. Good luck!

I would try to contact the owners if the dog was wearing a tag. If the person that answered was a confused little old lady then I would contact animal control for them to evaluate the living situation for the dog and leave it up to them. If there were not any tags and I really wanted to keep the dog I would contact my vet and take it in. I would then have it scanned there for a microchip and if none was found I would get the pup checked out and plan on taking it in. But, just to be fair, I would run ads and put up signs that the dog was found. If mine went missing I would hope someone would do the same so I could get her back.

A. if that happened first I would try to be sure the old lady was the owner. It happens and I know sometimes with older people their pets mean alot. i groom a few older peoples pets(not pretty but it keeps the pets cleaner and easier for the owner to clean up with out hair.) their little poodles and cockers and cockapoos mean a lot to them.
I would offer to bring the dog to her and if close enough offer to help her with the dog. Just because she is old does not make her a bad owner cause fluffy got away. and I would give her numbers to call and see if i could talk to her family....my hubby is an LPN....I know many people in nusing homes the only thing they really miss are pets they had to give up.

if not then E. only if got along with my other animals and ofcourse the kids. but if the owner is not found after scanned and no chip and a good long search using everything i can online and posting in all the town near me ...i'd keep it, or find it a home...after being spayed.

if it didn't like kids that would be a problem I could try to kennel it in my basement(if summer to cold in winter). and if i don't find an owner I would have to turn it over to the shelter. or find it a home myself. although there is a rescue i just found out about i might give them a call.

I agree that this is tougher than some questions.

If the dog appears to be in really bad shape, uncared for, with no micro-chip or other ID, I would more than likely turn it into the shelter where people look for their lost dogs.

If the dog appears pretty well cared for and healthy, I would check the area I found it in for posters, check the paper, notifiy the shelter(s)that I have found the dog and probably hang a poster at the shelter(s) with the information that I have found this dog. I would do what I could to find the owners. If I didn't find owners within a couple of weeks, I would probably turn the dog into the local Humane Society.

If dog is wearing any kind of ID or has a micro-chip I would contact the owners and return their dog.

I would call the number on the tag first. If a confused old lady answered...I would try to see if she was the owner. If she was I would take the dog to her. If she wasn't, I would call the humane societies and shelters in the area to see if they got any calls on the dog. I would definitely have him scanned for a micro chip. If no one came to claim him, I would foster him and try to find a good home for him myself. I would only keep it if I thought the owner wouldn't come around and if the dog really fit well with my family.

I'm on the fence about what I'd do with any dog I'd find. I love all dogs and would want to make sure the dog gets home safe and sound so I'd prefer to take him into my own home and find the owner myself. However, I'd be too scared to bring a strange dog into my house, as I'd be worried about the state of the dog's health and the potential for any problems affecting my own dogs. If the dog looked as if it had been cared for up until very recently (as if it just broke off the leash the same day) and it seemed well groomed and healthy, I would probably take care of it while I made every attempt to locate his owner.

G)If the Dog was fine with my Dog and kids...I would keep it safe with me .
Find out if it has a tag on call the number.
If no tag i would bring it to the shelter or vet let them scan .if no Microchip is found then i would leave info with the shelter and my phone#.make a picture and leave it there Too.
Then I would check petfinder for missing Dogs place an ad at found pets.
Same for other websites like Dogdetectives.com and graigslist.org.
If i can i hold on to the Dog as long as i can after that i would give him to a recue/shelter.

Now if the dog would NOT be safe with my kids or dog AND does not have a tag on(if it has i would call and let them pick him/her up right away)I would bring him to the recue/shelter.

I would never Ever keep a Dog without trying the hardest and doing everything i can to find the owners,BECAUSE if my Dog was to get lost ,I WANT HER BACK TOO!

I found 2 dogs and both of them had tags on i called they came right away to pick up there Dog.

Being in the field of rescue, and lost animals, I would first canvas the neighborhood door to door, with thus said dog, under my arm. Taking note, condition, temperment, and health of said dog. It would then dictate how hard I canvased. If no, luck, call tag and see why woman is so confused about tag? Then I would call shelters, vets, police, animal control, and newspaper. Give said dogs description and see if anyone has lost him. If all fails, he comes home with me a few nights to see what kinda a dog he is made of. If dog is not suited to my home enviroment, he goes to a shelter, or rescue or stays with family till owners claim after a week or 2 of searching. Then if family likes him, we go through motions of keeping him or finding him a great permenant home.

G. I would call the tag, if a confused lady answer the phone, then I would take it to a shelter. No ways I will keep it in the house if I don't know it's vaccine status, it might bite my children. Beside if it's microchiped, they'll accuse you of stealing their animal.
