Link us up to these statistics. How much does it "soar"? Each and every full moon? Around the world? Which type of crimes? Where? This is nothing but a myth unless there is data to support. Ivan Kelly, James Rotton and Roger Culver (1996) examined over 100 studies on lunar effects and concluded that the studies have failed to show a reliable and significant correlation (i.e., one not likely due to chance) between the full moon, or any other phase of the moon, and each of the following: -the homicide rate -traffic accidents -crisis calls to police or fire stations -domestic violence -births of babies -suicide -major disasters -casino payout rates -assassinations -kidnappings -aggression by professional hockey players -violence in prisons -psychiatric admissions [one study found admissions were lowest during a full moon] -agitated behavior by nursing home residents -assaults -gunshot wounds -stabbings -emergency room admissions -behavioral outbursts of psychologically challenged rural adults -lycanthropy -vampirism -alcoholism -sleep walking -epilepsy If so many studies have failed to prove a significant correlation between the full moon and anything, why do so many people believe in these lunar myths? Kelly, Rotton, and Culver suspect four factors: media effects, folklore and tradition, misconceptions, and cognitive biases. A fifth factor should be considered, as well: communal reinforcement. Edit: If over 100 studies says no differences, how many studies would be enough to say there IS a difference? Money and time were invested and nothing was found. How much more is need just for this myth? Those that make the claims and not put up the evidence are the ones ****ing in the wind. There are a lot of people that want just want that one tiny shred of evidence that will validate astrology. It is not there. The birth chart does not have what phase of the moon is in. Even if, there was a correlation with a full moon, that does not make that evidence for astrology. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

I don't know if this idea is borne out by statistics, but if it is it's because the Moon has an effect on us. Women's menstrual cycles are timed to match the moon's phases. Unfortunately, with all the artificial light, hormones, and chemicals in our lives, most women's cycles are not as attuned to the Moon as they should be.

The moon rules emotions - astrological terminology - people become more emotional. Laws of the universe.
