Kudos to you. when I was your age I also wanted to change the world. In fact, now in my late 50's I still do.

Eventually, I realized I can't change the world for I am not that powerful, but I can do a lot to change a small corner of the world and improve the lives of others every day by how I chose to live my life.

Something so simple as coming on here at yahoo answers and trying to help someone with a problem, making them feel better, praising them, or passing on my knowledge of alternative health and other topics I am knowledgeable of or have insight on can help others every day.

Bobby Kennedy once said that "each time a man stands up for an ideal, acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope and that ripple crossing a million other centers of energy and daring build current that can sweep away the mightiest walls of oppression or resistance." (see the link below for the whole speech..well worth reading..this man changed the course of my life and his brother JFK's book "profiles in courage" affected how I reared my kids"..in the sources, I put the context of this quote about how one person can make a difference).

We can if we each work hard definitely change the world..the more people that do something, the more it changes..the more people that choose not to take drugs, the less people are hurt and the more crimes goes down for example..the more people that rear excellent and wonderful kids that become great adults, the more the world changes and so forth.

Every day we can help others and also by improving ourselves, we help the world change.

Since you mentioned vegetarianism, but don't think you will do it, do things like trying to encourage your parents to reduce packaging by buying bulk items in bins, eat more organic foods or foods produced locally or purchase from responsible from companies with a long history of treating their animals right, their lands non-chemically, and being aware of their environmental impact. These are generally local farmers and companies that have a history of selling their products at health food stores (which may now also sell through the larger chain grocery store). eat less meat and dairy and chose free range products (organic etc)...one still helps even though not being a full fledged vegetarian.

Also recycle--this has a big impact, reuse things like shopping at thrift stores, garage sales, junk yards or looking for new uses from old things in your house or for making things like treasures from trash and recycling things to others via garage sales, passing down to others instead of throwing out, and reducing your need for stuff in general. (reduce, reuse and recycle).

Plant some flowers and trees to beautify things..it may trigger someone to have a better day even..one never knows what happens when we encounter beauty both externally in the environment we live in and internally in others.

Even a smile helps ...so smile and be friendly to all you meet. Practice being kind and doing random acts of kindness often. Pay for an extra burger and ask the clerk to give it to the next person in line free. things like that...put a dime in an expired parking meter.

Practice being grateful, noticing the good and letting others know what you appreciate and love about them often. Being good to yourself and loving yourself and building self esteem through developing a good character are also good. Practice forgiveness and gratitude often.

Volunteer to help others in the family and friends and strangers. In our city we have a help line that directs us to community resources for various problems and includes many volunteer opportunities including those for teens,. Here in Columbus, Ohio, it is called first link. Call your library and ask if they have something similar or if all else fails call suicide prevention, tell them you are not suicidal but trying to find volunteer opportunities in you city and do they know of any phone numbers that might help you find this information so you can see what places need what kind of volunteers..many do use teens.

Volunteer at nursing homes as the elderly are very lonely, maybe an animal shelter, or hospital or day care center. Help kids with their homework at the library or park program... find an area of interest you like..say if it is flowers, ask the conservatory in your city if they need volunteers or can suggest anything, etc..that way you can match your volunteer work to your interest.

You can also match the volunteer work to your future career to help not only others but you too by being able to include this on your resume. Like if you want to be a teacher someday, volunteering at preschool centers or local schools can help you a lot or if you want to be a social worker perhaps volunteering with the elderly or abused kids or something like that would be helpful or if you wish to go into the medical field, maybe working for a hospital would be a good fit and so forth.

Also go around the neighbor and volunteer to shovel someone's lawn or shovel their show or even babysit for free once in a while or something like that..ask people if they need help cleaning or something..do this for free although they may wish to pay you.

Do not forget your own family and extended family..visit with a grandma, send a nice letter to an aunt or uncle, take care of your little brother or sister, help unasked with the chores, be more cooperative and clean up after yourself and others without being told,

Get involved with church aid and projects like helping someone during the holidays..have a bake sale or do some project to raise money for some worthy cause or charity.

Pray for people often especially those in need and for groups of people like God please help all the people who someone they loved died today, help all the people with kidney disease on dialysis, help the lonely people, help someone whose mom is beating them today, help 5 homeless people find a place to live today, help a drug addict find the courage to stop, help a kid living in a bad neighborhood, help someone who just arrived in a new country and doesn't speak the language, help someone whose mate is cheating on them decide what to do, help someone lost find you God and things like that..this will do a lot of good too.

Pick wild flowers, put them in a nice jar or in cheap thrift store vases and put them on people's porches anonymously with a note "hope you like these..I had some extra" or something like that.

On Easter, hide candy or eggs with small change in someone's yard with a note telling them to go for a hunt or organize one for neighbor kids with a flyer..put little wrapped gifts for neighbor kids or old people by their mail box or door to surprise people, have an outdoor walk through area in your yard for Halloween with neat things and scenes or some thing different like ice cream cones or a party table with foods or something people will remember as neat and different this Halloween. Volunteer to take siblings or neighbor kids to the local park for their Halloween party if you are responsible.

Volunteer to work at a local food coop. Make little craft items for others to cheer them up or take to a hospital and ask if they or you can distribute them to the ill or leave for the hospital emergency room packets with like coloring books and crayons or kid's books for the parents to keep their kids occupied in the nursing home..even just drop some off at a table or take with you when you visit the doctor and give them to some kid you see in the waiting room.

Send picture you draw or poems or letters overseas or take to a nursing home or hospital. Dog-sit for someone going out of town if ok with your family or go to their house to feed the animal for them and let him out or take him for a walk. In other words, do some nice things for others..thoughtful things..stick up for someone picked on at school, go to protests and rallies to speak out for things you believe in..for instance, if against the war, go to an antiwar rally and add your voice. Always be socially active.

I once had a little neighbor girl put colored pictures she did in my mailbox and it always made me smile. Play with some kids that have nothing to do. Volunteer to take neighbor kids to church..some parents want their kids to go but do not want to go themselves.

Develop a set of rules and moral standards to live by resolving to live for instance according to the ten commandments or the golden rule and not do things which might hurt others like take drugs, drink, have irresponsible sex, steal, revenge and so forth..this will also build your sense of self worth and if everyone did this crime and things like that would go down. Tell your grandparent how special they are to you. Hig five people every day.

Write letters to the editor speaking out against injustice, bad things happening in the world and so forth. Get involved as we desperately need young people today..in my era the young people were much more involved with protesting. I am a political activist and many of the activists I see involved on the streets or in activism are older..we need the young to get more involved here and also to demonstrate this to their own kids when they have them to carry this behavior forward..the country is declining more and more..speak out.

By eating a healthy diet or living a good lifestyle, you will be helping you future family..for example if you learn to eat healthy foods or exercise, you can pass their habit and value down to your kids someday.

Stand up publicly for what is right and for principle even when to do so is hard or even if you risk ostracization..read profiles in courage by john f Kennedy. By standing up for what is right, you can change people's views or inspire them and maybe even give them the courage to speak up too,..It is easier if someone makes the first move.

Pick up litter or start littering cleaning projects in your neighborhood or school. Volunteer to help a teacher. Have a vegetable garden and share the produce with the neighbors or relatives or a food pantry.

All these small and big things add up..and by dong this you will in ways big and small be able to change part of the world. Also educate people about things like the environment, animal cruelty. political problems, and things like that.

Best of luck...this is a great thing and I hope you remember that each day the things we do make a difference for the good or for the bad, so chose good..even if the thing does not get noticed or appreciated by others, trust that God notices and is glad and that YOU notice and this will help you really grow to love yourself.

Good luck and I hope you will do many of these things or that they will get you thinking of things you can do..and when you start doing these good and kind things, change your membername from no one to someone because even he fact that you asked this great question shows you are definitely someone of note..we need more like you,. you know :)

there are many ways to help your community; you need not look far to find them. service clubs, national organizations, public projects, and other local groups all offer you a way to give back to your community. find an interest and do something with it. Like computers? go to a retirement home and write letters for those who no longer can. Help out at your museum so save the lessons from the past for use in the future. Learn to entertain in some way and visit a children's ward at a hospital. Opportunities surround you; it is a matter of opening your eyes and heart to them. You can change the world by interacting positively with each person you meet.
