Which certain thing are you wanting them to do? I have a vivid imagination and am left intrigued.

Ask the person to marry you. It's best to do the certain thing after marriage, not before.

I presume you mean without getting insulted for your efforts? If you've done everything you should have done, courted them properly, treated them well, dated for a reasonable period of time and assured yourself that you love them and they love you, there won't really be a need to "ask". Nature will take it's course in due time. :)
