this happened yesterday and i wasn't the friend who found him but i DO know that i would have held his hand. the pain, the suffering, the longing in his eyes to rest, somedays he doesn't know who he is, or who you are, but this was something he talked to us about at the beginning of the year, so it wasn't a spontaneous decision.

If he had told me he wanted to, let him go. you don't know how hard it is to live in extreme pain or your mind is going. If he did it himself, hold his hand and tell him goodbye.

I think you have to do whatever you personally could live with for the rest of your life and I mean that without any judgement. I don't know for sure what I'd do. Seeing someone I love in an incredible amount of pain, maybe the only answer would be to let them go. Can you live with that decision or will you suffer from guilt? What will you feel about yourself whichever decision you choose to make. That's what you need to consider.

I would respect my friends wishes. I would stay with him / her until the very end and let them go out peacefully. After the friend had passed, I would wait a bit, and then call for help. They won't be able to revive him / her after 10 minutes or so.

this is a judgment call that only the person involved may decide. you don't suppose something as acute as this situation.
it involves the individuals own conscience.

personally i do have a problem with the repercussions of suicide. other than that, i could not, honestly, condone or bless pending actions.
