I can see that you're alarmed. Don't be too frightened.

When a cat is spayed, the incision is closed with two layers of stitches. The muscles are closed with stitches that will dissolve, since it won't be possible to remove them. The skin is closed with non-dissolving stitches that are usually removed 10-14 days after surgery.

Don't panic -- the stitches you can see are the ones that close the skin. The important stitches are in the muscles, and it would be extremely unusual for them to come out. As long as the muscle-layer stitches are intact, the cat will be all right. Her insides will not fall out.

If she was spayed Tuesday, and this is Saturday, healing of the skin has already begun and the incision line should be closed, though it may be red and raised a bit due to the developing scar tissue.

The short answer is -- unless the incision is actually gaping open, the cat is all right. (If it is gaping, take her to an emergency vet or call your vet -- he probably has an emergency after-hours number.) Just call the vet on Monday morning and see if he wants to see her to be sure the healing is going well. He may put in a stitch or a staple or some skin glue then, but it may not be necessary.

Most vets use stitches that dissolve naturally after the surgery. Is your cat bleeding from the incision or does she appear to be in pain? If she isn't hurting or bleeding, I definately agree with the above post to use some super glue if the incision is open. If its not open then just leave her alone.

If she is in pain or hurting or bleeding, then call an emergency vet right away!!! Every city has 24 emergency vets, call your vets office and see if there is any info on their machine, it might have a paging system or number for you to call. Or check your phone book under vets.

Don't panic. When the vet sewed her up he started from the inside out. Meaning he stitched several layers of muscle until he closed the outside of the wound. Most cats will pull these stitches out anyway because they are foreign to them. If you have a kennel keep her in it for a few days to help keep her calm and from doing anything like jumping, etc. Call your vet on Monday and explain what happened. You should have another return appointment already set-up from when you picked her up after surgery and they will more than likely tell you to just bring her back then. Please keep and eye on her wound for drainage and any odor you might detect because that is a sure sign of infection.

What stitches? Can you not call the vet's office? Usually they have someone on call to take care of these things. Are you unable to take some sterile tape and close the wound yourself?

Sterile tape is a good possiblity. If you don't have that and can't get any, believe it or not, duct tape is also something you can use. Just be VERY careful when you remove it. You need to contact your vet also; they should have an emergency service that can get a message to your vet.

The message from the poster above about using superglue is also good!

Yes. I know this sounds strange but it's true. You can use super glue or krazy glue. Just put a few drops along the edge of her incision and then hold the skin together for 10 or 20 seconds. It should hold. Surgeons use a medical form of super glue the same way.

Is the cat bleeding? If not don't panic just attempt to keep the cat from running around to much.
I don't know where the stitches were, when your cat got them So I wasn't sure what to tell you.
