Before you attend any of the military academies, you join the military. Students at the academies are all members of the military.
Additionally, there is a service requirement that must be fulfilled after graduating. If you don't graduate, you are sent into the appropriate branch as an enlisted person.
So the simple answer to your question is "yes, you must join the military".
If you want to get some military training without the requirement to join, you may be able to take the military sciences classes at a college that has a Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) unit, but actual ROTC members will get priority seating in those classes.

Only if you attend the U.S. Military Academy, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy or the Coast Guard Academy. You can go to institutions like the Citadel, Texas A&M or Virginia Military Institute without incurring a military obligation after graduation.

A Service Academy, yes, you incur an obligation of anywhere from 4-10 years. Places like the Citadel, only if you contract with a branch of the Military.

Of course!!Thats what they are there for! A free college education will cost you 8 years of obligated service. And, you just can't "attend" a military academy, you have to be accepted. And the citeria to be accepted can be very tough.

At a military academy, Why would be stupid enough to stay there if you didn't want to be commissioned in the U.S. as a officer. That's plain stupid. If you go to a Accredited college like Florida or Kentucky and go through ROTC, you would have the Military Science degree you wasted your 4 yrs on, and not have to join the Army

You have to become a officer in a military academy. but I don't see why you wouldn't want too. You don't have to sign up at a regular college.

in case you graduate you would be required to serve six years lively till you're involuntary prolonged and 3 years inactive provider. then you definitely may well be talked approximately as as much as serve later till you're 40 5 years previous. in case you do not graduate you will enter lively accountability as a enlisted provider member. i'd desire to be incorrect on the size of provider yet i'm optimistic they gets their pound flesh.
